Main Functions

  • Assists in the management of care of all NJ TRANSIT employees with on-duty accidents and injuries under direction of Senior Nurse/Registered Nurse and Physician.
  • Conducts pre-employment physical exams with the use of specialized diagnostic procedures and equipment.
  • Conducts annual and on-going medical/health testing of employees, including diabetes and/or hypertension.
  • Conducts health counseling of employees with various health problems and provides referrals for appropriate evaluation and treatment.
  • Assists in the management and monitoring of health programs for Rail employees’ non-work-related illnesses, under the direction of the Senior Nurse/Registered Nurse.
  • Conducts drug & alcohol testing on an as needed basis

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Graduate of an Accredited Nursing Program and at least four (4) years of experience in a clinical environment or
  • Associates Degree in Nursing with at least (2) years of experience in a clinical environment or
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and at least (1) year of experience in a clinical environment
  • Certification or experience in Occupational Health Nursing desired.
  • Prior experience working with DOT Certified Medical Examiners desired.
  • Knowledge of New Jersey Worker's Compensation and Temporary Disability Benefits laws and regulations, Americans with Disabilities (ADA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) desired.
  • BLS/CPR certification required.
  • Active and unrestricted license to practice Nursing in the State of New Jersey is required
