The position is for a Senior Staff Hardware Engineer to develop our next generation Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) systems. You will understand low current electrochemical sensing technologies, electromagnetic theory, material science and analog design. As part of a team, you will design, implement, and test electrical systems that includes conventional electronic circuits, novel material interconnects and subcutaneous electrochemical sensors.
You will work to engineering project plans collaborating with internal R&D and Advanced Technology groups, along with our Quality, Operations, Regulatory and Clinical organizations. You will document your engineering solutions, following the relevant quality processes to meet Dexcom business needs.
Functional Description: Technical Individual Contributor
Responsible for designing, developing, modifying and evaluating electronic parts, components or integrated circuitry for electronic equipment and other hardware systems. Determines design approaches and parameters. Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests and evaluates results. Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- As the lead technical resource: form a team, define technical design parameters and specifications, test/validation solutions and execute for on-time delivery of project goals and objectives.
- Beginning with proof of concept, determine feasibility in the early stages of a project and define technology and scalability challenges.
- Contribute to and review technical solutions for product improvements.
- Define regulatory requirements of new designs (60601-1-2 EMC/ESD for example)
- Define pros-cons of possible solutions and present supporting data
- Design of CGM platforms for research/data gathering and follow-on scalability
- Strong debugging skills with new, unique problems as it pertains to testing designs as well as manufacturing
- Working with other R&D groups, commercial manufacturing, and external contractors, specify, schedule and drive designs to completion
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Analog hardware development and test skills
- Excellent communicator, both verbally and in written form, with strong organizational skills
- Experienced in design-for-reliability (DFR), design-for-test (DFT), design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and design-for-cost (DFC) practices for very high-volume products.
- Previous R&D engineering lab experience
- Experience with low power battery operated designs
- Willingness to roll up your sleeves and dig into complex problems
- Ability to work in a fast paced / dynamic team environment and possess time management skills to meet schedules
- Other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior medical device development experience
- Experience in very low current detection methods, test equipment and associated challenges
Experience and Education Requirements:
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 13+ years related experience or a Master’s degree and 8+ years equivalent industry experience of a PhD and 5+ years of experience.
Travel Required:
- Up to 25%
Functional/Business Knowledge:
- Possesses expert knowledge of leading technical areas.
- May be externally recognized as an expert in technical field.

- High level of understanding of solving unique problems where analysis requires an in-depth evaluation and may impact future concepts or technologies.
Judgement:
- Exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
- Demonstrates ability to discover and identify processes, novel science and technology which lead to increased productivity and results.
