As a member of the BD Biosciences San Jose Electrical Engineering Research & Development team, you will be responsible for the design and support of sophisticated medical instrumentation. This equipment includes technology from every major area of science and engineering.
The Electrical Engineering Research & Development team is responsible for high-speed cell analyzers and sorters that are designed to include lasers, detection electronics, fluidics, power supplies, extremely low-noise analog circuits, high-speed data acquisition and digital signal processing with FPGAs and high bandwidth communication protocols.
We are looking for a Sr. Staff level Electrical Engineer with thorough understanding of both analog and digital development and experienced in data acquisition systems with FPGAs for high speed data acquisition and digital signal processing. In this position, you will be supporting Senior Staff engineers providing high quality and innovative solutions to a wide range of challenging problems and contributing to the completion of specific design projects.
The ideal candidate has an extensive experience in developing and testing ultra-low noise preamps for optoelectronics PMTs and APD sensors, using TIA, differential amplifiers and wide bandwidth op-amps. Additionally the candidate has expertise in ADC front-end using single ended and differential amplifiers for wide bandwidth applications.
Primary responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Actively participate in the new product development efforts from concepts to implementation.
Support and collaborate with Senior Staff engineers.
Drive circuit and hardware development phases including qualification of designs, component evaluation, schematic entry, board bring-up and integration of complex printed circuit board assemblies into life sciences based instrumentation.
Collaborate on complex designs involving FPGAs and high speed data acquisition protocols
Effectively work with cross-functional teams including software, mechanical design and system engineering
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline. MSEE preferred.
Minimum of 12 years' experience as an Electrical Engineer designing both analog and digital circuitry on complex printed circuit board assemblies.
Proven track record leading project development, testing and troubleshooting to successfully complete design deliverables.
Analog Technologies: APD, PMT, TIA, Diff AMP, Op AMPs, bipolar and FET circuitry designs, valve and motor drivers, PWMs and other modulations, Clocks, DDS, PLLs, Active and Passive Filters, EMI/EMC protection, PZTs, ADCs, DACs.
Digital Technologies:
Large pin count Xilinx 7-Series FPGA’s (Virtex, Kintex, Artix, Zynq)
Xilinx High-Speed serial Transceivers (GTP, GTX, GTH)
Power Sequencing of Xilinx 7-Series FPGA’s
DDR3, DDR4, NAND FLASH, NOR FLASH, SD Cards, eMMC
High-Speed ADC’s and High-Speed DAC’s
JESD204B , PCIe, Ethernet, USB, UART, SPI, I2C
High Speed clock designs
High speed serial communications: JESD, USB3, PCIe
Tools: Mentor DX designer/Pads Layout, Pads AMS or equivalents Spice modeling, HyperLynx, SI and PI, Models and libraries for simulations.
Design practices: Great understanding of Product life cycle management, Six Sigma, DFM, DFT and DFR.
Experience conducting or leading design reviews (schematic or layout) in a formal setting.
Lab experience with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, DMMs.
Strong debug and troubleshooting skills of complex electronics cards involving digital/analog circuits, FPGA designs and RTOS based firmware.
Assets:
Strong digital and analog circuit design background that includes: FPGAs, microprocessors, system on chip (SoC), analog circuitry for low noise high-speed data acquisition systems, system and board level simulation, and experience with building blocks for modular systems.
Strong design skills and tools for schematic capture and board layout and simulation
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Self-motivated, independent, and comfortable working in a matrix team environment and under time pressures.
Strong problem analysis and solving skills.
