Job Description
Demonstrates ability to proactively identify and resolve any architectural or standard issue effectively & efficiently required to ensure minimal disruptions & unplanned downtime of assigned systems. Independently seeks new technologies that will improve the availability, support, and costs of infrastructure systems. Exhibits exceptional oral and written communication skills necessary to communicate (technically and non-technically) with other team members; other technology services staff, customers, vendors, partners and leadership. Ensure successful and cooperative completion of tasks and projects and to resolve problems in a timely manner. Manage computing infrastructure including servers, data storage, and supporting infrastructure. Technical expert that provides support to other IT areas and coaches/mentors other members of the team. The IT Data Communications Architect is responsible for expert design and architecture standards required for installation/configuration, operation and support of systems hardware and software related data communications infrastructure. Tasks will be focused on advanced design, implementation, maintaining high availability, performance, and security of data communications systems that are located throughout the enterprise. Must be able to manage urgent and complex issues by setting customer expectations, devising and implementing action plans, being available as required and professionally communicating to all parties involved.

  • Responsible for architectural designs and standards ensuring the performance and availability of infrastructure systems. Identifies preventative and improved maintenance activities that should be performed during installation, upgrade, and/or configuration documentation.
  • Demonstrating seniority by always following change control procedures, testing changes in non-production environment, developing back-out plans, and monitoring infrastructure systems for possible includes including but not limited to performance issues, security issues, application issues, and system issues.
  • Participate in a on-call rotation. Off-hours work may be required.
  • Leads cross-departmental discussions to enable timely identification and resolution of issues.
  • Timely response to possible production issues impacting security and system availability possibly resulting in patient safety issues.

  • Facilitates and reviews the definition and implementation of standards, methodologies, and best practices that guide the design of technology solutions including architecture and implementing solutions requiring integration of multiple platforms, operating systems, and applications across the enterprise. Leads teams/projects and implementations. Mentors and provides subject matter expertise to less experienced team members.

  • Completes architecture documentation for all planned infrastructure systems & system software implementations & upgrades, including overall work-plans, test plans, implementation schedules & backout/recovery plans & evidenced by a minimal number of problems or "backouts" associated with an implementation, modification or upgrade.
  • Develop and implement architectural infrastructure strategies resulting in fewer incidents, increased availability, or accelerated deployments.

Additional Requirements

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in Computer Science or Engineering.

Experience:

1o years of Network Management demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: full suite of Cisco networking products including Catalyst, ASR, ISR, and Nexus. Designing and operating networks using OSPF, BGP, QoS, Spanning Tree, and EIGRP. 5 years minimum working with Cisco (or similar enterprise class) Wireless components. 5 years minimum working with firewalls (preferably Cisco ASA). Strong background in network management tools for SNMP, Netflow, syslog, IPAM. Demonstrated capability to troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues.

Certified:

CCNP or equivalent certification (or demonstrated functional abilities at this level and the ability to attain a CCNP)

Skills:

Ability to independently plan, organize and document complex infrastructure design activities and standards to be consistent with institutional policies/procedures; Must be able to proactively identify possible infrastructure issues and clearly and timely communicate technical/complex information both verbally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain cross-functional cooperation, understanding, trust and credibility; Willing and competent in performing multiple tasks concurrently and acts is the technical expert in emergency situations.
