VMware’s Modern Apps & Management Business Unit is a catalyst to VMware's portfolio of cloud services. The Modern Apps & Management Business Unit is looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to play a pivotal role in advancing the team's goals for the vRealize product. The transformation to cloud is turning out to be an exciting journey and we are looking to add to an already solid SRE team.

You’ll be working with a great team designing and building a SaaS application stack from the ground up, while providing actionable insights of the services running in AWS cloud. Additionally, you’ll be improving our internal CI/CD pipelines. You will ensure that all critical production systems remain online and stable for the organization.
Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
Within your first 6 months
- You will contribute towards SRE & DevOps related automation efforts
- You will contribute towards incident response processes, and work towards improving stability of underlying software components using automation
- You will assume ownership of 1 or more DevOps/SRE functions by becoming a subject matter expert and increase adoption of this function across other engineering teams. Example functions are CI, CD, Infra-as-code, Config Management, Security, Compliance, Incident response automation, etc.
After 6 months+
- Working with the team, you will propose improvements in existing cloud and infrastructure operations including a SaaS delivery model for K8s based services
- Working with the team, you will propose next generation DevOps/SRE solutions to support and sustain higher scale requirements
- You will embody an automation first mindset, and will be an influence across DevOps, SRE and engineering teams to achieve a 100% automation goal
- You will improve reliability and resiliency of K8s based infrastructure and microservices using DevOps/SRE best practices across the engineering organization
- You will help implement monitoring, logging and tracing functions across all DevOps/SRE services for a robust system where potential production incidents are identified and fixed before reaching production systems
What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
As a new member of the DevOps and SRE Team, you will:
- Work with the team and product management to review and refine production readiness requirements
- Write technical design documents and hold reviews
- Participate in all team scrum meetings and demos
- Help deploy microservices to K8s using Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) systems
- Deploy cloud infrastructure in an automated fashion and build CICD pipelines for the same
- Maintain existing CI/CD systems and pipelines
- Participate in on-call rotations, providing operational support to components owned by DevOps and SRE teams
- Communicate with internal consumers regarding the team’s software and gather requirements to facilitate adoption of your solutions

This position reports to a Manager of Engineering on the SaltStack Configuration team, who has been working in the software industry for over 22 years. The team consists of highly competent senior and junior engineers working together as a close-knit group.
