Sr. LabVIEW Developer (1615)

The Senior Test Automation and Controls Engineer will be responsible for supporting standardization and deployment of test stand software/hardware and providing data acquisition and control systems in close coordination with other test departments, managers, and technical and support personnel. This person can work remotely from Southern CA or Huntsville, AL, as long as they are willing to travel to the NTS locations within CA and nationally, as required.

Job Responsibilities:

• Develop flexible and extensible software with intuitive GUI that can be deployed across multiple NTS facilities to support a variety of test automation and data acquisition requirements and is usable by technicians at all levels
• Interface with NTS personnel and vendors to procure and/or manufacture s/w and h/w components required for Data Acquisition & Control systems
• Work closely with the test organizations and assist or lead problem/conflict evaluation and identification of solutions as applicable to DACS requirements
• Evaluate a broad spectrum of test stand requirements and identify key DACS characteristics. Implement system safety requirements to mitigate identified hazards with the test system
• Oversee and provide hands-on approach to integration and checkout of DACS
• Train personnel in the operation, customization, and extension of the DACS modules
• Maintain proficiency on new and evolving Data Acquisition & Control system technology
• Continuous evaluation of processes and identification of improvements
• Recommend new/change to policies and procedures to the Engineering Director to improve efficiency and productivity
• Evaluate and recommend test equipment, services and enhancements to include capital investments
• Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

• Regularly work on significantly complex and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles
• Exercise independent judgment in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
• Must have a proven technical record in design, integration and test of data acquisition and control systems in a test environment
• Must be a self-starter, have the ability to consistently deliver at a high level with minimum supervision and maintain continuous communications with subordinates, peers and upper management personnel
• Ability to negotiate through conflicting demands for resources and manage time to drive overall organizational success
• Ability to evaluate tools and processes to identify opportunities for improvement
• Experience developing software in a team environment using version control, build automation, bug tracking, and similar processes/technologies
• Ability to obtain US Gov’t Security Clearance
• Ability and willingness to travel, as required

Education and Experience:

• BS Degree, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline, advanced degree preferred
• 5-10+ years technical experience in specifying, programming and use of Data acquisition and control systems typical to climatics, dynamics, electrical, and fluid/mechanical testing. This will include but not be limited to:
  • LabView based Data Acquisition & Control systems (PXI, CDaq, CRio, FPGA, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of data acquisition fundamentals and interfaces (sampling, filtering, DSP, RS232, GPIB, OPENCan, etc.)
  • Application, system integration, and signal conditioning of pressure, temperature, flow, acceleration, load cells, LVDT, RVDT, strain gauge, etc. sensors into DACS
  • Calibration standards and processes for test instruments
• Experience with Military and Aerospace and other commercial compliance standards typical to climatics, dynamics, nuclear, and fluid/mechanical testing
• Certified LabVIEW Developer or Certified LabVIEW Architect is highly desired

WORKING CONDITIONS: Test lab with exposure to sudden, loud noises
