Job Description

Leaf Group is a house of brands, creating and cultivating digital-first companies in growing lifestyle categories: Fitness & Wellness (Well+Good, Livestrong.com); Home & Decor (Hunker, Society6, Deny Designs), and Art & Design (Saatchi Art, The Other Art Fair). Additionally, we have performance focused brands in key categories such as Travel, Pets, and DIY (OnlyInYourState, Cuteness, eHow). Our media and marketplace brands are authentic and authoritative, reaching a large and growing passionate audience.

We work in a fun, collaborative environment that is diverse, adventurous, and open-minded. We look for proactive, accountable people focused on continuous learning and growth to push themselves and our businesses forward. Check us out here.

Hunker believes good design should be a part of everyday life — and that you don’t have to be an expert to make it happen. We bring this mission to life online via our website, social media (@hunkerhome), and newsletters, and IRL at the Hunker House and Hunker Newsstand. We are looking for a Sr. Analyst, Content & Operations to help us achieve ambitious growth goals for our five-year-old brand.

The Sr. Analyst, Content & Operations will support Hunker’s editorial, commerce, SEO, and experiential efforts by creating and maintaining budgets and reports and analyzing this data to inform strategic decision making. You will also be tasked with identifying data holes and working with our Business Intelligence and Data Science teams to find reporting solutions that will streamline our processes. We’re looking for a candidate who is not only excellent at synthesizing data but also is a creative and analytical thinker who can clearly communicate data learnings with stakeholders to help grow our business.

A big vision calls for a big job. As we grow, our need for a Sr. Analyst, Content & Operations grows with us.

You’ll Report To: Director of Audience Development*

A typical day as a Sr. Analyst, Content & Operations might include:

  • Creating and/or improving content performance, paid marketing, and affiliate revenue reports, with an eye toward the end business-user and their decision-making needs.
  • Interpreting the data from these reports, identifying trends, and regularly sharing insights with editors, marketers, and other stakeholders, via email and in team meetings.
  • Maintaining a content and marketing budget, including communicating with editors and marketers to collect accurate data, and sharing month- and quarter-end numbers with Leaf Group’s finance department.
  • Working alongside SEO to set up tests and analyze results.
  • Responding to ad-hoc data inquiries that will help optimize content investment, development, and performance.
  • Meeting with editors, accountants, engineers, data scientists, product managers, and various business leaders to discuss business challenges and scope opportunities; following up with the data and reports that will aid in problem solving and planning.

You’ll Be Successful If You:

  • Have a solutions-oriented mindset. Identifying challenges is easy; sharing your ideas on how to tackle them is what brings real value.
  • Are generous with your knowledge: we’re looking for someone to be a teacher who will help team members learn how to use data to make informed decisions.

What You Have:

  • Microsoft Excel proficiency, including the ability to efficiently build financial models and performance reports using large data sets from a variety of sources.
  • 5+ years of experience working as an analyst on cross-functional teams, preferably within a digital media organization.
  • Exceptional communication skills. The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable sharing insights in writing as well as during a presentation to executives.
  • Fluency in media business terminology and a deep understanding of digital audience metrics and KPIs.
  • Analytical, problem-solving skills. A knack for breaking down quantitative findings into meaningful insights to deliver recommendations that lead to informed decision-making.
  • Experience using digital analytics tools, including Google Analytics and Tableau.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms’ ads and insights tools, such as Facebook Business and Ad Manager, Pinterest Ads Manager, and TikTok Ads Manager.
  • Familiarity with affiliate marketing platforms including Trackonomics, Amazon Associates, and Skimlinks. We're always looking for new ways to digest data, so interest and experience in testing new programs are encouraged.
  • An interest in home design, decor, and lifestyle topics.
  • Not afraid to wear multiple hats - no job being too small or too large.
  • We're casual and informal but we work hard and work responsibly. A pleasant and supportive demeanor goes a long way. We believe we are the change.
