The internship position is a temporary position within 3M. Interns typically work a full-time schedule of 40 hours a week throughout a 10-14-week assignment starting in May of 2021.

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a(n) Speech Recognition Research Intern you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

• Working with a team of Software Engineers and Speech Recognition researchers, building and testing the systems used in our next generation of product
• Working on products that make a real difference in the lives of patients and doctors
• Getting experience with Acoustic and Language models based on our own state-of-the-art recognition toolkit
• Leveraging enormous amounts of data –both transcribed and unsupervised - for training and speaker adaptation

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Master’s degree or higher (and verified prior to start)from an accredited institution

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• Currently pursuing a PhD with documented interest in speech recognition or adjacent technologies
• Experience with far field speech recognition
• A good grasp of statistics
• Solid scripting skills (ideally in python)
• Some programming skills (java, C++)
• Experience with Linux and Window or Macintosh development
• The desire to have a meaningful job with likeminded people

Location: Internships will be based remotely.
