    Position Summary: This position is directly supervised by a speech language pathologist. A speech language pathology assistant/paraprofessional is responsible for providing speech language screenings without interpretation, perform documented tasks developed by the supervising speech language pathologist, document student's progress toward meeting goals and report this information to the speech language pathologist and prepare materials.

    Responsibilities
    1. Speech-Language Pathology Support Services: to provide speech-language therapy services to students identified with a variety of needs and disabilities according to each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) under the direction of a Speech-Language Pathologist.
    Priority: Essential | Percent of Time: 75%
    Examples of this work include:
      Work directly with students to carry out the speech curriculum.Collect and record relevant data regarding student progress.Assist in the collection of teacher requests, comments and test information.Assist the speech/language pathologist with adaptations/modifications.
    2. Professional Development: Maintain current knowledge of Speech-Language Pathology practices and trends.
    Priority: Essential | Percent of Time: 15%
    Examples of this work include:
      Attend conferences and workshops toward present and future career development.Participate in general staff meetings.Contribute to the implementation of special projects when assigned.
    3. General Support: other duties as assigned.
    Priority: Secondary | Percent of Time: 10%
    Examples of this work include:
      Administrative support; copy and file paperwork.General student supervision as needed.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    Minimum Qualifications
      Graduate of a Speech-Language program with an Associate degree.Must have or have the ability to obtain a certificate of completion in speech-language pathology issued by the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction, Office of Special Education.Ability to communicate with students, colleagues, and parents/guardians.Basic academic and computer skills.
    Preferred Qualifications
      Graduate of a Speech-Language program with a Bachelor’s degree.Experience working or volunteering in a school setting.Experience working with individualized education plans (IEPs).

    *Salary range is subject to pending contract negotiations. The 2019-2021 salary ranges are listed for reference.
