Position Overview

The Lab Technician - Specimen Processor will receive and accessions patients/specimens into appropriate laboratory information systems. Updates sample and client data in a timely manner. Follows laboratory standards, practices, and procedures and assists with other laboratory duties such as inventory, ordering, and maintenance.

Essential Job Functions

  • Enter patient demographic and testing information into Laboratory Information System (LIS)
  • Complete appropriate routing, handling, and processing of various medical specimens by: properly verifying samples to laboratory requisitions, verifying the correct sample(s) were received for the test(s) ordered, and documenting date and time specimen is received and/or any specimen discrepancies upon receipt of sample.
  • Handle patient specimen under BLS cabinets and follow laboratory safety protocols.
  • Display the ability to learn and understand specimen types related to test(s) ordered by our clients.
  • Effectively investigate and troubleshoot any specimen or patient data issues
  • Obtain proper documentation corrections that may be required
  • Document, track, and notify laboratory management of specimen rejections
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and sterile workspace
  • Adheres to CAP/CLIA/OSHA/HIPAA compliance and safety guidelines
  • Maintain discretion and security of medical records and PHI in accordance with HIPAA
  • Assists with inventory audits and ordering
  • Meets turn-around times as defined by company policy
  • Performs departmental procedures as needed

Required Skills/Qualifications

  • High school Diploma/GED equivalent
  • 1+ years’ experience in data entry/laboratory environment
  • Understands medical and laboratory terminology
  • Ability to multi-task and organize priorities
  • Ability to work productively, efficiently, independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as listening skills
  • Strong computer skills, Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products
  • Ability to sit/stand for long periods of time, ability to lift 30 lbs
  • Reliable and dependable attendance is essential

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
