Cotting School - Special Education Classroom Assistant2020-2021 School Year! Work with our students both in person and remote!Cotting School is actively hiring classroom aides for the upcoming school year! About the Position: We are looking to hire new grads and experienced people with a background and interest in SPED. Program Assistants will work in a classroom setting with a lead teacher.
Our classes have 8 or fewer students, and have 2 teaching assistants per class. There are many opportunities to work closely with students, including assisting in classroom instruction, and attending weekly school specials (Gym, Art, Music, etc).Experience working with students with special needs is a plus! Due to current circumstances, Program Assistants should be comfortable with working remotely and using Zoom. Classes will have both an in-person and a distance learning component.
Cotting School employees will be provided with the PPE that is necessary to maintain a safe environment when working in person.Duties and Responsibilities: Assist lead teachers with the instructional programWork in break out rooms or small classroom groups with assigned studentsAssist students in various specials throughout the day including gym, art, music, library, home economics, industrial arts and technologyAssist in feedings with assigned students (training on this skill would be provided)Assist with the supervision of students in corridors wherever necessary and during arrival and departure timesAssist with lifting and transferring students in/out of wheelchairs, standers and gait trainers. Experience preferred, but training will be provided.Job Specifications/Requirements: Bachelors Degree preferredExperience, education, specific training for working with disabled children is a plus.Excellent health - Physician's verification of ability to lift/position students (up to 150 pound students may be involved) and engage in some strenuous activities.First Aid/C.P.R. certification (will be provided if necessary)Satisfactory results from TB/Mantoux Test.Criminal Offender Record Information (C.O.R.I.) background check.Benefits include: Employer/Employee shared Health and Dental insurance - effective on day one!Group Life and Disability Insurance 401K Free Lunch!School year hours are Monday-Friday 8:00AM-2:45PM, Wednesdays until 1:15PM.
