MITRE’s Technical Analysis Department is looking for early career engineers, scientists and analysts with an interest in advancing and applying innovative science and engineering techniques to help solve some of our nation's most critical challenges in delivering services to citizens throughout defense and intelligence, homeland security and cybersecurity domains. We are looking for highly-motivated, adaptive, and self-directed candidates with a solid science and engineering foundation in or a motivation to build technical skills supporting the development and deployment of nationally important solutions.

As an engineer in Technical Analysis department, you will leverage and grow your scientific and analytic expertise to provide support across a variety of system engineering development lifecycles, through the design, implementation, and integration of enterprise systems and system-of-systems for MITRE’s sponsors.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting government leaders in defining the context, problem space and vision to determine capabilities, priorities, road maps, and technology needs and actionable analysis that will help make the world a safer place.
  • Supporting requirements management and analysis, interface management, architecture development and test and evaluation processes.
  • Conducting qualitative and quantitative engineering analyses that can be translated into actionable recommendations.
  • Building proficiency in, and applying, systems thinking and analytic skills (eliciting and representing mental models; looking for interdependencies and different perspectives; modeling, illustrating, and predicting system behavior).

The successful candidate will:

  • Support the development and application of a variety of analytical models to sponsor challenges, with a willingness to adapt and learn.
  • Be passionate about applying data analytics to real world problems
  • Work to identify requirements and prototype cloud-based solutions, leverage Open Source capabilities, and define and develop solutions to meet multi-source analytical needs.
  • Present results in an intuitive, actionable manner.

Required Qualifications:

  • Significant academic background in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, or Statistics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manipulate large datasets and perform calculations with at least two modern programming language like Python (scikit-learn, pandas, tensorflow), C++, R, or Java or a business intelligence platform like Tableau.
  • Ability to apply, modify and formulate algorithms and processes to solve challenging problems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with the Department of Defense and/or Intelligence Community with experience working on transformational projects in other complex environments may be considered.
  • Relevant experience in conducting systems analysis, trade studies, and requirements development for hardware and/or software systems
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (EC2, RDS) Knowledge of Database systems, architecture and development, as well as MapReduce/Hadoop, Accumulo and NoSQL technologies.
  • Experience in agile software development paradigm (e.g., Scrum, XP), continuous software integration, test and deployment.
  • Experience working with databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, MongoDB, or Neo4j).
  • Experience developing in a cloud environment (AWS, Azure)
  • Experience using version control (e.g., Git, Mercurial, SVN) to support collaborative development.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: developing interactive data visualizations using open source web technologies (Angular, Vue, React, D3.js) or other frameworks (Shiny, Jupyter Notebooks); experience developing data-intensive full stack web applications using Node.js, Flask, Django, or other technologies.
