Software Development Engineer II - Data Engineering

As a Software Engineer in Expedia Group's Search Engine Marketing (SEM) team you will support the global marketing organization to execute on initiatives, through data and engineering complex data pipelines, BI, algorithm building and running analyses on our efficacy of marketing spend.

It’s essential for you to be comfortable working with complex data and be able to effectively communicate actionable findings. You must be willing to go deep, navigate through ambiguity, and work in an environment where you must partner with multiple stakeholders to achieve success. Your technical knowledge, business acumen, and analytical skills will be put to the test as we bring on new initiatives and optimize existing marketing initiatives.

What you’ll do:

• Help design, build, maintain and operate the data pipeline that runs our data platforms, including algorithms and reporting

• Drive technical implementation & software development at the application/product level for enterprise projects

• Work with the team to devise, implement and test new tactics and strategies

• Build rapid prototypes to enable quick feedback through our A:B test framework to help understand performance and results, and think of new ways to visualize data

• Provide solid judgement calls and tradeoff analysis, and communicate effectively with the organization

• Actively participate in group technology reviews to critique work of self and others

• Help the team deliver P&L targets whilst meeting ROAS expectations and continue to build and provide technical solutions to business problems

Who you are:

• Degree with strong analytical & builder focus (Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, Information Systems etc.)

• 2+ years of experience with Python, SQL, Java, HQL, Hive, Pyspark, or similar programming language

• Experience in ETL data warehousing and analytics projects, including using AWS technologies—Redshift, S3, EC2, and other technologies

• Familiarity with AWS, Databricks, Pycharm, and DevOps processes

• Experience with python's core big data / data science libraries: e.g. pandas, scikit-learn etc.

• Great problem solving and analytical skills combined with the ability to explain concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

• Ability to prioritize, communicate and deliver complex projects and time-sensitive deliverables

• Previous experience building algorithm and data science library and methods applied to auction marketplaces

• Technical Writing
