Social Work Services at the Mount Sinai Hospital
The Mount Sinai Hospital is a 1,134-bed facility with an extensive outpatient and specialty care network and is the largest hospital in the Mount Sinai Health Care System. Social Workers collaborate within interprofessional teams to serve patients and the larger community from both a micro and macro level including both direct care and prevention. Founded in 1907, the Department of Social Work Services at the Mount Sinai Hospital is one of the oldest hospital social work departments in the nation with over 450 licensed social workers employed across more than 65 different program/service areas. Employment in our department provides a pathway to LCSW licensure as well as access to a broad range of continuing education, professional development and extra-curricular opportunities.
Roles & Responsibilities: The social worker will be responsible for providing psychosocial services to KP 5 and antepartum/Labor & Delivery floors.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The social worker in this position will be responsible for implementing and coordinating safe mother-baby discharges for a wide variety of patients, including those who are unregistered to Mount Sinai, private insurance patients, patients at elevated risk for postpartum depression and patients with psychosocial, medical or safety concerns.
- Work closely with interdisciplinary team and attend daily morning rounds.
- Work closely with Mount Sinai’s child protection program as well as coordinate referrals to an extensive list of community resources, e.g., Administration for Children’s Services, NYC Department of Housing, home care agencies.
- Collaborate with social work colleagues in both the outpatient obstetric and pediatric clinics and neonatal intensive care unit for continuity of care and enhanced service delivery.
For the Antepartum Support Program: provide intensive psychosocial support to all patients; coordinate massage, iPad, volunteer programs; collaborate with nursing and physician leadership for program planning and implementation.
Requirements:
New York State LMSW
Bilingual (English/Spanish) required
Experience with obstetrics preferred.
Experience with complex medical and mental health issues related to pregnancy preferred.
Ability to work in a high pressure and crisis oriented environment.
Strong organizational, collaborative, program planning skills.
