Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site is seeking a Site Technician II, who will, under direct supervision, perform a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled duties associated with various building trades and historic skilled crafts, including but not limited to, carpentry, electrical, painting, tree trimming and removal; cuts and places forms for concrete; makes minor repairs to plumbing/heating/air conditioning equipment; reroofs buildings; restores, renovates or reconstructs period buildings, fences, furniture and artifacts; performs routine building and ground maintenance and janitorial functions; operates and maintains heavy equipment; maintains appropriate daily and monthly operational records and reports; maintains vehicles and equipment; provides leadership to seasonal employees and volunteers.
Job Responsibilities- Performs semi-skilled work by performing a range of duties associated with various building trades and historic skilled crafts, including but not limited to, carpentry, electrical, painting, tree trimming and removal; cuts and places forms for concrete; makes minor repairs to plumbing and heating/air conditioning (HVAC) equipment; reroofs buildings; restores, renovates or reconstructs period or other site buildings, fences, furniture and artifacts; monitors and and maintains buildings; makes structural repairs; paints; makes minor repairs to signs, picnic tables and other site objects; assists manager in coordinating places for execution of projects.
- Performs all types of grounds maintenance; mows, trims, weeds, applies pesticides and herbicides; shovels snow from sidewalks and public use areas; trims trees and removes; hauls trash; maintains and operates equipment, heavy and otherwise and vehicles used to maintain appearance and conservation of site facilities; performs equipment and vehicle maintenance and makes routine adjustments and repairs to mechanical equipment and tools.
- Performs a variety of tasks of a semi-skilled nature requiring the normal use of tools and mechanical aptitude; using manual or automated yard equipment, including but not limited to tractors, bat wing mowers, front end loaders, dump trucks, snow plows, bulldozers, tree spades, road graders, farming machinery of 80 ho. or greater.
- Performs janitorial duties: cleans interior and exterior of site buildings; vacuums and cleans carpeting; mops, sweeps, and washes floors and sidewalks; cleans and disinfects sinks, toilets, and washroom areas, replaces toilet paper and other washroom items; empties wastebaskets and trash cans; dusts, paints, and cleans furniture; washes windows.
- Provides support to the interpretive programs of the site; assists with cleaning of historic artifacts, furniture and exhibit areas; assists with interpretive duties and related maintenance, fabrication, and improvements; helps set up special events and craft demonstrations, assembles and disassembles tables, chairs, and booths, picks up letter, hauls trash; provides leadership to seasonal employees and volunteers.
- Assist in implementing the safety and security programs at the site; inspects public use areas for hazards such as flooding, fallen trees and erosion; checks to assure buildings and gates are properly locked; informs visitors of rules and regulations; assist in the rescue of injured or stranded site visitors; in the event of emergencies or disturbances, contacts proper authorities per Agency and Site procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
- Requires education and experience equivalent to completion of high school.
- Requires two (2) year's maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
- Working knowledge of equipment and tools used for cleaning, maintenance and the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to inform visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations.
- Ability to read diagrams and blueprints.
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
- Physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair and care of site resources, artifacts, buildings and grounds.
- Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year round basis.
- Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.
- Requires standing and/or walking for long periods of time, bending, stooping, climbing outdoor and rough terrain, ladders, and stairs and regularly lifting objects that weigh up to 100 lbs. in the course of duties.
- Requires possession of a valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Ability to obtain a herbicide/pesticide operator license.
- Requires ability to work holidays, evenings, and weekends, as needed.

Work Hours: April-Oct: Sun-Thur 8:30am-5pm, 1 hr. lunch (Fri/Sat off); Nov-Mar: Sun-Thurs 8am-4pm, 1/2 hr. lunch (Fri/Sat off).
