Prepares items for shipment by filling orders from our various warehouses and packing the product up for safe transportation to our customers then routes them to proper holding area till ready for transport. Works at keeping work place organized and maintained for safety of one another and others that may need to be in the warehouse areas. Helps to maintain the accuracy of our company’s inventory. Helps to maintain the cleanliness and basic repairs of our facilities. Helps to load customer’s vehicles as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned and other duties detailed out during performance review's.
- Fills orders from warehouses by reading sales order and matches information on product to sales order including color, product description and product identification numbers as well as to any special instructions given or to lock latch bolt and strike combination information.
- Pack up shipments for safe transport so that product arrives to customer in sellable easy to check in condition
- Minimize the shipping cost of all shipments for both our customers as well as for Builders Hardware and Supply while keeping product in re-sellable condition.
- Runs packages through shipping manifest system to add weight, tracking information and shipping charge information to BHS accounting and tracking system and prints customer shipping labels for each shipment to apply labels to each carton.
- Check off salesman orders on the day of pick up to insure that all freight is loaded and no product to be delivered is left behind.
- Zone the warehouse to insure that product is where it should be so that product can be located for filling sales orders.
- Do basic building repairs and clean up around the building to help make sure the grounds are safe, kept visually attractive and that basic amenities are provided for employees and customers.
- Back up receiving department with the filling of Non-stock orders or the checking in and putting away of freight
- Help out Hollow Metal Department when needed with the loading and unloading of freight shipments
- Help customers when needed to load up their purchases to their truck or vehicles when picking up large items or large orders including hollow metal doors and frames.
- Fill out freight bills and contact carriers for pick up of LTL shipments
- NRP commercial grade butts using drill press and taps when we do not stock the size and color already NRP’ed for the customer.
- Cuts lumber pieces with a diameter up to 1”X4” in diameter using chop saw this is for protection of product shipping out.
- Meets and exceeds all guidelines laid out in the Shipping department minimum standards.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Knowledge of shipping department procedures and routing
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all unites of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Ability to use Microsoft windows. Able to use ECLIPSE to perform required job functions. Able to use Starship and World ship shipping software to process shipping labels, tracking information and freight cost for product going out: LTL freight, UPS, USPS, sale person, our truck and will call.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions. Detail oriented. Strong communication skills both verbal and written. Good computer skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand. The employee must occasionally lift, move and carry up to 100lbs with 30-50 lbs being more the norm. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and color vision. The warehouse areas for filling orders consist of two levels with stair access. Employee will need to be able to climb ladders and step stools to get to shelving as high as 8 foot high and to kneel down to get to product on lower shelves. Employee needs to be able to handle pallets using a pallet jack loaded with product weights of between 100 LBS to 1,800 LBS and to be able to unload and load the product to and from those pallets. Employee needs to be able to lift up to 50 LBS from floor to waist height to be able to fill orders on lower shelving.
Tools used on the job include computer, phone, marking pen, utility knives, pallet jacks, hand trucks. Shopping carts, ladders, step stools, small hand tools, drill press, wood and metal chop saw.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne dust particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
