Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Cashier
DEPARTMENT: Service
REPORTS TO: Service Manager
HOURS:
FRIDAY: 7:30AM - 6:00PM
SATURDAY: 8:00AM - 6:00PM
PURPOSE:
The Cashier receives cash from customers and employees in payment for goods or services and records the
amount received in an accurate manner. Must be able to work accurately and pleasantly with numerous
interruptions. S/he is sometimes the customers last contact with the dealership and therefore must represent
the dealership in a friendly, professional manner. S/he is sometimes the recipient of customer complaints and
must be able to politely but firmly direct the customer to the appropriate manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Receive cash, checks and credit card payments from customers and record the amount received.
- Operate cash register, and/or computer terminal.
- Compute or re-compute the customers bill using the dealerships computer system.
- Make change, cash checks and issue receipts to customers.
- Print totals shown on cash receipts register and verify against cash on hand.
- Work with department managers to keep abreast of new products and services offered, their features and value, and any changes in price.
- Refer customers who have additional questions (e.g., questions about their repair order) to the service advisor or other appropriate individual.
- Handle customer complaints with integrity and poise and take or refer the complaining customer to the appropriate individual for further communication.
- Give cash refunds or issue credit memorandums to customers for returned merchandise Always obtain a signed receipt for money given from your till.
- Balance the till, photo copy checks, calculate credit card discounts, and prepare the daily deposit envelope before leaving work for the day.
- Assist service and parts customers as needed. Be able to back up repair order invoice clerk and rental agent as needed.
- Obtain receipts back for petty cash given out and create a receipt if petty cash money or expense advance is returned to the till.
- Maintain Service Department Filing as needed.
- Give cash out of the till only with a signed authorization from GSM, PM, Controller, or Dealer, or upon approved credit refund invoice from the Parts Department. Customer must sign receipt for all cash received for refunds or any other reason.
- Assist all Co-Workers, Managers, Sales Persons, Service Advisors, Vendors, Factories and customers with the information they need promptly and accurately.
- Must be cooperative, courteous, helpful and pleasant to assure an efficient and smooth processing of transactions in a non-hostile working environment.
- Other duties as assigned by Management.
- Must follow Company safety policies and practices, and immediately report any and all accidents to a Manager or Supervisor.
- Enter Claims data and receive reports including CSI.
- File pre-invoiced ROs, active ROs and paid copies.
- Verify and adjust customer pay portion of warranty tickets.
- Close tickets, proof read ROs, and report discrepancy.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
- One year experience operating a cash till.
- Will be trained on dealership computer systems, cash receipts register and other office machines.
- Professional personal appearance and ability to work well with customers, the service department, the parts department, and politely handle customer complaints.
