Northrop Grumman Space Systems sector has an opening for a System Designer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This role is located in Roy, UT with travel to VSFB, CA and Promontory UT.

This position will be responsible for supporting and working with a team of highly qualified Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Computer Science engineers and systems engineers designing the LSS ground system for Sentinel (GBSD) flight test program. The candidate will report directly to the LSS engineering manager under Ground Test and be responsible for the development of the ground based LSS drawings.

This positions will prepare working plans, detailed drawings, and complete mechanical or electrical drawings of very complex components and assemblies from notes, verbal instructions, and rough or detailed sketches for engineering or manufacturing purposes. Must be able to work independently and coordinate the design/drafting efforts for an assigned program to ensure that design details and drawings are in compliance with established standards and to verify completed work, checking dimensions, material and quantities to be used. Will transition the program from design and development into production assuring producibility within cost and schedule requirements.

The candidate will define design and technology maturity constraints of the system in accordance with customer specifications and range certification requirements outlined in 91-710 into drawings. The candidate will develop a release process flow for all drawings through the engineering board process. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

What You’ll Get To Do:

Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for the engineering process development, continuous improvement, and affordability initiatives within the various systems and systems assigned.

  • Serves as the liaison to LSS Technical Lead, LSS management, customers, operations, and other functional groups.

  • Manages risks, change requests and opportunities for drawing team’s scope within the system discipline.

  • Collaborates with all functional organizations to resolve engineering conflicts with a multiple disciplined engineering community.

  • Maintain System configuration control over SW/HW versions/configurations (network/computing/applications, automated environment creation within drawing program.

  • Have an understanding in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc as it related to drawing development.

  • Product Deliveries include: ICDs, Emulator/Simulator baseline control, test plans, network diagrams, integration/deployment work instructions, production, and test system hardware (e.g., networks).


Job Qualifications:

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • 5 years with Bachelors in Science, 3 years with Masters, and 0 years with PhD. (May accept 4 additional years of experience in lieu of degree)

  • Active DoD Secret clearance with a reinvestigation date occurring in the last 5 years with ability to obtain/retain TS clearance and PAR within 365 days from submission.

  • Must have previous computer science or system engineering experience designing and releasing drawings through the engineering boarding and auditing process.

  • Must be a US Citizen

  • Must be willing to travel up to 25% of the time.

  • Must have prior training experience.

  • Must be willing to work flexible work arrangements to include swing shift and mid shift.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Experience supporting a team of diverse team members integrated ground based computer systems.

  • Knowledge and experience using computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or CATIA

  • Can complete major layout drawings in accordance with standard engineering drafting practices.

  • Previous ICBM Experience is a plus.

  • Can determine scaling; inserts necessary reference planes, centering and dimension lines, hidden line interpolations, and sectioning.

  • Can prepares specifications for parts, assemblies, and installations; prepares complete production detail drawings; contributes design modifications to improve quality of product or facilitate manufacturing operations.

  • Can plan, lays out, draw, and revise detailed part, assembly, and installation engineering drawings from basic layouts, established references, and standard data in a field of specialization such as structures, devices, mechanics, electrical, or electronics.

Salary Range: $72,400 USD - $108,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
