Description Provide engineering design work, technical advice and guidance for all phases of assigned large/complex engineering projects and programs, ensuring the successful conclusion of all phases within an appropriate time and at appropriate cost. Plan and perform complex mine engineering duties related to development and production activities at the PTFI underground operations in Papua, Indonesia. Utilize Gemcom's PCBC block cave planning software on 10-K reserve updates. Contribute to mine design efforts in order to support ongoing mine development projects. Assist with the annual reporting of mine reserves. Regular travel to mine site to communicate and support ongoing and planned work to the jobsite team.
  • Review, investigate and develop appropriate recommendations regarding assigned Engineering projects
  • Develop complex mining plans based on all available geological information to support long range planning and production goals
  • Participate in engineering feasibility studies to define proper mining methods, equipment selection, mine site facilities, capital and operating costs, and manpower and production requirements
  • Prepare detailed ore reserve estimates
  • Optimize mine designs and ore reserves to maximize ore recovery and profit
  • Develop and manage mine design activities of consultants
  • Recommend courses of action designed to eliminate potential production problems and to improve safety, operational efficiency, cost control, and to protect the environment
  • Work with Geologists in Exploration and assist in the Engineering phase of mine development and operational activities
  • In collaboration with Supervisor, determine scheduling, manpower, capital and equipment requirements to meet objectives of the mine plans
  • Contribute to site strategic planning and budgeting efforts for designated Engineering areas
  • May represent the site on company sponsored steering committees, task forces, or teams
  • Perform other duties as required
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mine Engineering or related Engineering discipline and five (5) years of related experience in mine design, production planning and scheduling, block caving mining methods, concepts, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, OR
  • Master's degree in Mine Engineering or related Engineering discipline and three (3) years of related experience in mine design, production planning and scheduling, block caving mining methods, concepts, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies
  • Knowledge in the principles and practices of engineering planning applications in a hard rock underground mine environment
  • Knowledge of appropriate software (MS Office, AutoCAD) and data analysis
  • Skilled at researching, analyzing and communicating information of considerable difficulty and develop appropriate conclusions and action plans
  • Skilled in managing engineering projects related to an hard rock underground setting
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing to a diversely educated audience.
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety of yourself and others
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.


Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Mining, Geotechnical or Civil Engineering
  • Underground production scheduling and forecasting experience in block cave mines
  • Underground mining methods and mine design experience with the block cave mining method and cave management planning
  • Working knowledge and experience with both Gemcom PCBC and PCSLC applications
  • Familiarity with Deswik CAD UG Mine Design/Scheduling and Arena Simulation
  • Knowledge of Tableau, SharePoint and Microsoft Teams


Criteria/Conditions
  • Ability and willingness to travel to internationally for two (2) to three (3) weeks at a time, three (3) to four (4) times per year
  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Work is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to thirty (30) pounds during the course of the workday
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
