Positions & Duties

Under direction of the Therapeutic Services Manager, this position will perform clinical supervision of Therapeutic Specialists under the Therapeutic Art & Wellness Program at Northside Community Center. The Therapeutic Art & Wellness Program serves community members with severe and chronic mental illness, chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, developmental disabilities, and individuals seeking community and safety. This position will provide clinical oversight of staff providing individual or group counseling, psychotherapy, case management and treatment services of clients having basic and/or severe emotional, family or social adjustment problems in a community center environment. This position will direct therapeutic recreation programs for mentally disabled patients and, in collaboration with the Recreation Supervisor of the program, supervise a unit of approximately seven staff in a community center setting.

Typical Duties for the Senior Therapeutic Treatment Specialist position include, but are not limited to:

• Develops and conducts intensive counseling, psychotherapy, and treatment plans and services with clients and their families.
• Participates in psychotherapy and case reviews with clinical staff treatment teams or outside agencies to develop and implement mental health client treatment plans.
• Performs and supervises the duties associated with Drop-In Rehabilitation Clients of mental disabilities.
• Supervises and develops professional staff, clinical interns, administrative support staff and volunteers to provide the services offered to the seriously mentally disabled.
• Evaluates and make recommendations on new techniques for dealing with emotional and psychiatric problems.
• Interfaces with law enforcement agencies and ambulance personnel regarding emergencies.
• Directs specialized programs, leisure activities and special events for mentally, physically and neurologically disabled individuals of all ages.

The salary range for Senior Therapeutic Treatment Specialist is $73,299.20 - $88,940.80. The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience. In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Senior Therapeutic Treatment Specialist classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Completion of a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Social Sciences, Clinical Psychology, or a closely related field.

Experience: Two (2) years full-time experience (2080 hours = 1 year) providing individual or group treatment for adults diagnosed with serious and persistent mental illness in a community center treatment setting.

License/Certificates:

• Possession of California Driver's License, Class C. (As a condition of employment in some designated positions, possession of a valid State of California Class B Driver's License with applicable endorsements may be required in the performance of job duties.)
• Licensed as a Clinical Psychologist or Mental Health Rehabilitation Therapist or

Marriage and Family Therapist by the State of California Mental Health Department.

• First Aid and Basic Life Support Certificate as required by the State Department of Health may be required.
• Registration for one or more of the following may be required:
• Art Therapist, State of CA
• Music Therapist, State of CA
• National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (NCTRC) Certification
