Overview:IBTCI is currently seeking a Senior Research Advisor to support the upcoming USAID/WASH Research and Learning Project. The Senior Research Advisor will contribute to filling evidence gaps related to USAID’s goal of increasing the availability and sustainable management of safe water and sanitation for the underserved and most vulnerable, specifically, in the technical areas of 1) On-site sanitation services and hygiene; 2) Sustainable rural water resources and services; 3) Urban WASH services and policy environment; and 4) WASH sector finance. The Senior Research Advisor will oversee activities such as operations research, special studies, assessments, big data analyses, and will provide technical assistance and evaluation services to USAID missions and Operating Units. The anticipated period of performance of this activity is 5 years with an estimated start date of October 2021.This position is contingent upon award.Responsibilities:

Essential Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Develop, document and disseminate project’s findings, best practices, lessons learned and scale up efforts for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Develop operational/implementation research design, including methodology, sampling strategy, and data collection instruments in close collaboration within the USAID mission and Operating Units.
• Provide targeted technical support to USAID mission and Operating Units to build their capacity for the systematic and effective collection, analysis, and utilization of health data for decision-making and to strengthen health data systems.
• Work with the project technical team and managers in USAID Operating Units.
• Work with the USAID mission and local institutions to improve recruitment, productivity and performance management of human resources and research activities.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

• Minimum of ten years of experience in health research, involving a range of research activities and products.
• Previous qualitative and quantitative research experience required.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience conducting research in developing countries. \
• Wide range of publications and conference presentations.
• Strong oral and written communication skills in English, including evidence of quality report writing and presentations.
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines with quality products.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

• Must be fluent in English reading, writing, and speaking.

Education: Master’s degree in social sciences, public health, statistics, or a related area from an accredited institution required; PhD preferred.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Proven experience leading applied research teams for public health programs.
• Prior applied research experience in the health WASH sector within countries designated as High Priority or Aligned for investments authorized by the 2014 Senator Paul Simon Water for the World Act.
• Previous experience preparing high-quality applied research reports.
• Previous experience with USG-funded projects and knowledge of USAID’s ADS 201 policy, standards, guidance and protocols highly desired

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Travel: International travel may be required and may include travel to fragile or conflict prone zones.
Working Environment: Work is typically performed in an office environment.

Physical Requirements: This is largely a sedentary position.
