The Senior Reliability Engineer is part of a cross functional team of reliability engineers at the Wilson, NC site and is responsible for improving the reliability of high-speed packaging equipment for the site. The Senior Reliability Engineer proactively identifies chronic equipment issues and implements optimization projects through the application of existing or new Reliability tools and processes. This will require expertise in data analysis, selection and application of reliability tools, field execution, as well as close collaboration with other teams at the site in order to achieve reliability performance targets. The Senior Reliability Engineer will be considered a subject matter expert for packaging equipment within their respective area of coverage, as well as a mentor to other Reliability Engineers.

Primary Responsibilities

Technical

  • Perform root cause failure analysis on packaging equipment failures and develop strategies to prevent recurrence

  • Analyzes calibration, maintenance, and equipment performance and work orders to identify trends with an emphasis on reducing reactive work and increasing reliability

  • Field application of reliability tools and principles to ensure that packaging equipment operates in compliance with safety, environmental, and quality requirements

  • Responsible for identifying and applying creative/technical solutions aimed at cost reduction, improved yields and quality of products and/or facilities which meet all regulatory requirements

  • Identifies and initiates preventive/predictive maintenance processes and precision maintenance techniques where gaps exist

  • Serve as the reliability technical liaison for capital projects to ensure reliability, maintainability and operability of installed packaging equipment

  • Develops and monitors the equipment reliability metrics; investigates variance from targets and implements action items to improve performance

  • Conducts spare part reviews or maintenance reviews to ensure that CMMS data is properly configured to support reliability efforts (ensuring accurate asset bill of materials and effective maintenance job plans)

  • Identifies the spare parts required that will be stocked for new/existing equipment

  • Provides reliability support for Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for new and modified equipment installations to ensure equipment reliability requirements are met

  • Responsible for all aspects of process change control related to reliability improvements (evaluation, approval, communication, planning scheduling, validation and project documentation, auditing, training, implementation)

  • Support safety programs (LOTO, HECP, etc.) and environmental compliance from a maintenance perspective

  • Maintains the site reliability plan for the Reliability Engineering team

  • Maintains the site engineering project lists

  • Identifies equipment specific training that is needed

  • Initiates and executes Trackwise change controls

  • Provides equipment troubleshooting support to maintenance personnel when requested for major breakdown events that result in extensive downtime

  • Perform maintenance related SOP updates as needed

  • Assures all manuals and drawings for new and existing equipment are available to maintenance and are correct

  • Provides technical expertise to support production area quality deviation investigations

Leadership

  • Mentor other Reliability Engineers to develop their reliability knowledge

  • Lead project teams as needed, including training and mentoring team members

  • Significant project management, including project accountability (e.g. scoping, planning, scheduling, forecasting) with minimal supervision

  • Execute activities to meet production targets, product and maintenance cost reduction targets

  • Influencing others to adopt different points of view as appropriate

  • Works closely with Maintenance managers to identify training gaps for personnel and put plans in place to correct

  • Represent site interests and needs when working with above site teams

Education Minimum Requirements

  • At least a bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or related field of study.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of four years experience in packaging, industrial manufacturing, maintenance, industrial engineering and/or reliability engineering

  • Ability to locate and/or rank problem assets that will result in lower maintenance costs

  • Analytical and problems solving skills with electrical, automation and/or mechanical equipment and their use within a manufacturing process

  • Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude

  • Strong communication, team, and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Reliability analysis tools such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis, Criticality Analysis, Pareto Analysis, and other reliability tools

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Five plus years as a Reliability Engineer supporting high-speed packaging lines

  • Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) certification or similar reliability management certification

  • Two years supporting relevant manufacturing or processing (aseptic/sterile, bulk, solid oral dosage, packaging)

  • Demonstrated experience of interacting with site, divisional or regulatory audits

  • Working knowledge of cGMP for pharmaceutical packaging

  • Ability to locate and/or rank problem assets that will result in lower maintenance costs

  • Analytical and problems solving skills with electrical, automation and/or mechanical equipment and their use within a manufacturing process

  • Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude

  • Strategic and effective communication, team, and interpersonal skills

  • Certification as Green or Black Belt

  • Deviation management, troubleshooting and resolving quality issues

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Reliability analysis tools such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis, Criticality Analysis, Pareto Analysis, and other reliability tools
