Job Description
Cardno is seeking a Senior Project Archaeologist to join our strong, well established Cultural Resources Practice Group consisting of archaeologists, architectural historians, historians, and GIS specialists. You will be joining a premier natural resources and engineering consulting firm renowned for its strategic planning, innovative solutions, and problem-solving capabilities. We specialize in sustainable natural systems engineering, geomorphology, biology, water and natural resource management, permitting, and compliance.
The Cultural Resources Practice Group works seamlessly with a multidisciplinary team of accomplished biologists, botanists, hydrologists, geologists, engineers, and planners to support a variety of aquatic, water resources, restoration, renewable energy, fire management, and power projects in the Pacific Northwest and Northern California.
The position will be full-time and will primarily consist of local work but may require travel to other regions as needed. Must demonstrate knowledge of the history, archaeology, and ethnography of the Pacific Northwest Coast and Plateau culture areas.

Job Description:
Day to day responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- You will be managing projects/project teams in the execution of projects/tasks keeping to agreed budget and schedule. Projects will include survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring.
- You will work with the Practice Group Leader to coach, mentor, and train staff, and to recruit candidates to expand the Cardno staff capabilities in the PNW.
- You will prepare and/or oversee the preparation of work plans, technical memoranda, and reports.
- As a senior member of the team, you will lead proposal efforts for variety of projects for private/state/tribal/local governments. As such, you will be responsible for developing scopes of work, budgets, and schedules. You will be coordinating teaming and subcontracting discussion/agreements for specific project opportunities and to help grow the practice group sales.
- As a senior member of the team, you will be responsible for client management; developing and maintaining clients in an account management model. You will be participating in key client management and growth discussions at a regional and national level.
- Serve as a senior technical reviewer
- Serve as Principal Investigator, as needed
- Work collaboratively with other departments/divisions within Cardno in the PNW and US
Basic Requirements:
- Have a graduate degree in Anthropology or Archaeology with Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field of study
- Be a Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA)
- Able to meet Secretary of the Interior’s (SOI) Professional Qualifications Standards for Archaeology
- Qualified or ability to qualify as an Oregon Qualified Archaeologist and Oregon Department of Transportation Qualified Archaeologist
- Twelve or more years of relevant field experience
- Twelve or more years of project management experience
- Successful completion of archaeological field school
- Ability to walk long distances under adverse conditions, including inclement weather, wildlife encounters, uneven terrain, and able to carry up to 50 lbs.
- Must be locally available to oversee or conduct project work as necessary.
- Valid driver’s license and be able to operate motorized vehicles
- Be authorized to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship
Technical Requirements:
- Supervisory and management experience
- Business development experience
- Expertise in local, state, and federal environmental and cultural resources regulations
- Experience with leading inventory, survey, testing, and/or data recovery projects through to completion
- Knowledge of the history, archaeology, and ethnography of the Pacific Northwest Coast and Plateau culture areas
- Familiarity with archaeological materials (e.g., historic artifacts, faunal remains, osteology, shell, lithics, etc.)
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines and complete projects within scope and budget
- Ability to simultaneously work on and manage multiple tasks/projects while working in a fast-paced environment
- Flexible, team-oriented approach, with the willingness and desire to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team and with diverse team members
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
