DescriptionSupervise, coordinate, provide direction, and advanced problem solving. Review and improve the performance of existing automation systems.
- Direct or supervise others on moderate to complex issues including mentoring and developing junior Engineers
- Review and improve performance of discrete, continuous and advanced control equipment and software and identify opportunities to implement process optimization through automation
- Regular review and improve alarm management systems (alarm rationalization)
- Participate and represent process automation in HAZOP and other safety and reliability processes and studies
- Identify and troubleshoot specialized, analytical and advanced sensors
- Keep track of Process Automation equipment obsolescence and develop plans to replace equipment prior to it becoming obsolete
- Implement Process Automation solutions through delegation of work
- Review and comment on project proposals and verify the quality of project work
- Work with Expert or APC systems to optimize plants
- Review and improve performance of PCS communication and the plant historian
- Perform other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline and five (5) years of related experience in Engineering relevant to Process Automation or related field, including three (3) years of experience with Advance Sensors and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs); OR
- Master's degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline and three (3) years of related experience in Engineering relevant to Process Automation or related field, including three (3) years of experience with Advance Sensors and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
Preferred
- Previous supervision experience
- Electrical Journeyman Training
- PLC or DCS manufacture's training or certification
- Experience in Plant Information or some other data base storage and retrieval system
- Understanding of science behind comminution, flotation, exothermic reactions and other processes used in mining and mineral beneficiation and processing
Criteria/Conditions
- Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
- Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
- Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
- Work is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
- Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to thirty (30) pounds during the course of the workday
- Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
