Job Description
The Mechatronics Engineer engages in high-speed compressor design at the Quincy, IL facility. While all engineers are involved with product development and design/testing at global facilities, the high-speed centrifugal compressors feature magnetic bearings and integrated motors. These technologies require cross-functional skills in digital controls, electromagnetics and rotordynamics analyses. Principal responsibilities includes controls system analysis, electromagnetic and structural finite element analysis (FEA). The Mechatronics Engineer is expected to have a high degree of tech savvy and continuously stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends. Extensive analytical effort is used to assure the mechanical performance of the compressor.

Responsibilities:
  • Complete design evaluations that include static and dynamic simulation of rotating systems (lateral and torsional), bearing behavior and resulting dynamic performance.
  • The Mechatronics Engineer will be responsible for rotor modal and finite element analyses and the interaction with active magnetic bearings. This work will require using CAD tools to develop FEA models.
  • The Mechatronics Engineer will be responsible for product improvement ideations, developing relevant testing plans and working collaboratively to implement them in high-speed compressor products.
  • All engineers support the successful testing and field operation of high-speed compressors. This involves global test facilities and global field operations support. Knowledge and skill is required in root cause problem identification and implementing process improvements based on lessons learned from testing.
  • Engineering works with numerous internal and external customers; effectively communicating to a diverse audience and varying technical levels is required.
  • Work regularly, dependably and independently.
  • Ability to travel including internationally up to 20% (typically <10%)
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • Knowledge of centrifugal compressor design
  • Experience in MATLAB for control system design
  • Previous work experience with Finite element modelling/ analysis and CAD/CAM tools
  • Must demonstrate proficiency with ANSYS or other commercial FEA software
  • Strong undergraduate work in FEA, controls/systems analysis
  • Self-motivated, responsible, clear communication skills.
  • Experience working in a team environment
