Position Summary

Performs engineering assignments with a focus on complete mechanical systems across instrument families. Provides leadership to existing engineering teams and delegates to others on project-wide tasks.

Duties
  • Delegates project-wide tasks within the mechanical engineering department and follows up on progress.
  • Designs mechanical parts and processes for use in new product development and the repair of surgical devices.
  • Measures and documents mechanical parts considering complete families of instruments.
  • Conducts research that tests and analyzes the fit, form, and function of new components and the feasibility, design, operation and performance of existing equipment, components, systems and processes.

  • Creates solid models and engineering drawings with a focus on manufacturability.
  • Develops, sources and evaluates prototype designs; design tooling, jigs and fixtures.
  • Conducts failure analysis, identify critical components and develop Bill of Materials.
  • Specifies system components that conform to engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Conducts technical presentations to medical professionals and IMS employees.
  • Coordinates with purchasing and the production floor to find suppliers and vendors.
  • Creates part numbers for components and assemblies for purchasing, inventory control, and factory use.
  • Projects planning and scheduling; reports progress to department manager.
Education DegreeBachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Required Experience
  • Must have 5-8 years of experience with the following in a regulated industry (medical preferred):
    • Materials engineering, metallography, and working with polymers, and plastics. Must have the ability to build prototypes as well as reverse engineer mechanical parts.
    • Machining processes and techniques, ability to solder and handle small delicate parts is essential.
    • Parametric modeling.
    • Schematic capture, PCB layout and CIS/DE-HDL, library tools.
    • Understanding of complex mechanical systems and interaction with overall electrical sub-systems
    • Working with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
    • Production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
    • Translating voice of customer input into specific design requirements
    • Design control methods, including verification/validation testing techniques.
    • Project management.
