Position Summary
Reports directly to the Manager, Sample Processing Service of IBX and maintains an inventory control system to insure all supplies and materials are on hand to perform repository operations at all times. Assists with maintaining the daily physical plant operations of the IBX, interfacing with Laboratory Managers and Supervisors to keep facilities and equipment in peak operating order.
· Under broad guidance and direction, functions as the group leader and instructor for laboratory technicians, laboratory assistants, and students of a large university laboratory and/or teaching program.
· Provides professional-level laboratory technical support involving the application of scientific research methods and techniques.
· Performs and oversees the performance of multistage purifications, other assays, and tests; the propagation of non-animal specimens and cell cultures; the preparation of tissues, chemicals, and/or living subjects for testing; may perform the breeding of small animals; and related duties.
· Group leader and instructor for laboratory technicians, laboratory assistants, and students of a large university laboratory that processes whole blood, tissues, and cell cultures.
· Provides professional-level laboratory technical support involving the application of scientific clinical methods and techniques.
· Performs and oversees the performance of multistage purifications and nucleic acid extractions, other assays, and tests, and the preparation of tissues, chemicals, and nucleic acids for testing in genetic studies.
· Logs and enters computer records of sample identity data and sample processing data
· Inventory, store, and track extracted samples in -80 degrees centigrade freezer storage system.
· Retrieve and prepare stored sample for distribution to investigators. Create a computer log of sample
· Perform quality control and quality assurance checking as samples are processed and investigate sample discrepancy problems (i.e. performed Southern analysis and/or PCR to confirm sample identity or pedigree analysis to confirm genetic relationships.
· Perform equipment maintenance and troubleshooting. Reagent and solution preparation. Assist with maintaining supplies and materials. Cross train in cell culture activities
· The person in this position will have the ability to order supplies, interface with service personnel for RUCDR instrumentation, sign off on service work performed and be a contributing author on progress reports and manuscripts
Qualifications
This position requires a BS in life sciences. A minimum of four years of practical bench experience in an advanced laboratory operation setting is required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy are required. Detailed working knowledge of molecular biology reagents and instrumentation is required.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
