Burns & McDonnell has an exciting opportunity in Onsite Energy & Power Group for a Senior Engineer that focuses on campus and industrial utilities primarily focused on Geothermal feasibility studies and design as well as the overall campus sustainability market.

Engineer will execute complex assignments requiring the application of advanced techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment and/or technological methods. Some specific duties & responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating project design assignments and design teams.
  • Performs Lead Engineer duties on large geothermal projects.
  • Developing scope of work, conceptual design, and execution plans.
  • Preparing engineering cost and man-hour estimates and schedules.
  • Preparing/creating construction documents for the installation of geothermal systems.
  • Providing leadership, guidance, instruction, and mentorship to less experienced staff members.
  • Regularly meeting and corresponding with clients or outside personnel.
  • May coordinate departmental and divisional project studies and reports.
  • Some marketing responsibilities.
  • Other duties will be assigned as required.

Work experience which demonstrates progressive design and project management responsibilities. Has experience with design scope development, budget preparation and project execution meeting schedule requirements and maintaining established budgets. This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments. Must be capable of interpreting and developing solutions to complex problems.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Geothermal Facility Assessment & Energy Analysis, Vertical Bore field Design, Horizontal Bore field Design, Geothermal Site Planning, Geothermal Bore field Operational Analysis, Infrastructure Master Planning and Life-Cycle Cost Analysis preferred.
  • Excellent written & verbal communications as well as strong analytical & problem-solving skills are required. Previous consulting engineering experience preferred.
  • Licensed as Professional Engineer strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
  • Or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering a plus.
  • 7 years mechanical engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.
  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE). Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
  • Ability to travel

Compensation Range

$110,000-$155,000

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The final agreed upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
