POSITION SUMMARY: At the direction of the Supervisor, performs a wide variety of work within company offices and fulfillment centers, and buildings and grounds.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of the following:
    • Conveyor systems, including motors, belts, rollers and pulleys, pneumatic components and clutch assemblies. Requires calculating conveyor speed of component changes; troubleshooting motor starters and frequency drives, nor using PLC inputs/outputs nor MCC electrical diagrams
    • Overhead cranes, including troubleshooting electrical and PLC system and components
    • Compressors
    • Packaging machines, including troubleshooting using PLC inputs/outputs
    • Energy management system, which requires knowledge of system components and function; and identifying system issues using graphic display
    • Fire system, including testing and reading blueprints of all facilities
    • Shoe sorter/tower, including troubleshooting Rapid Route and Flex Sort functions.
    • Tilt tray systems, which includes manipulating computer screens; troubleshooting INET and DNET functions and components; setting up scanner parameters; troubleshooting scanner photo arrays; setting up induction drive parameters
    • Cross belt sorter (Returns), including troubleshooting Profibus using system manuals and drawings; setting up scanner parameters
    • Printers, labelers, scanners, PC terminals and scales
    • Forklift trucks, including battery charger issues and electrical AC/DC circuits


  • Uses the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) on a daily basis to enter time spent on projects/repairs, communicate turnover items to supervisors and other shifts and to enter repair comments

Electrical skills including bending/sizing conduit; install and terminate data cabling; troubleshoot all voltages and components


  • Testing and troubleshooting fire system of the facility


  • Basic familiarity with PLCs; must be able to read PLC ladder logic


  • Replace lighting ballasts and fuses; resetting overloads


  • HVAC knowledge and abilities to read HVAC diagrams; describe system components and their operation; understand the energy management system/HVAC interface; brazing; troubleshooting the refrigerant system; and boiler control


  • Perform general plumbing duties such as piping and threading; troubleshoot and repair water heaters and repair/replace pumps. Knowledge of code is required for this position


  • Perform general carpentry, interior/exterior painting and hanging drywall. Calculates material lists. Skills in taping and finishing


  • Troubleshoot the access control system used for building security; adjust camera focus


  • General outdoor duties on company property and grounds as required


  • Serve on-call as outlined in Article 42, Section 5 of the collective bargaining agreement


  • Must be able work extra hours and weekends if properly scheduled by the supervisor, and accept temporary transfers between the Indianapolis and Plainfield facilities


  • Other duties as assigned that support the business and its efficient and safe operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 + years mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial, distribution or warehouse environment
  • Working knowledge and experience in the maintenance and repair of conveyor systems, forklift trucks, cranes, compressors, packaging machines, printers/labelers/scanners/PC terminals and scales
  • Working experience and basic knowledge of electricity
  • Working knowledge of basic plumbing
  • Experience working with commercial HVAC systems
  • Requires knowledge of security control systems, e.g., devices, controllers, switches, etc.
  • Experience in fire system testing
  • Hands-on experience using CMMS
  • Excellent communication, interaction and team skills
  • Complete understanding of lockout/tagout procedures and general safety requirements
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
