As the Senior Civil Engineer, you will report directly to one of our Principal Engineering Leaders and Vice President.
You will primarily support our Civil Department with land development and civil engineering practices and production for electrical substations and transmission line right-of-way.
This role will play a pivotal part in developing and growing our Civil Department in other regional offices.
What You Will Be Doing::- Execute all aspects of electrical substation civil design including permitting support, site layout, grading design, retaining wall design, stormwater analysis, containment structure design, survey coordination and civil construction support
- Development of civil construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals, and project schedules
- Provide support of substation physical design and equipment layout
- Execute transmission line right-of-way access improvement design including culvert sizing, stormwater drainage analysis, stabilization specification, construction support and inspection
- Analyze and design various civil elements related to high-voltage power transmission and substation design
- Partner with clients, vendors, permitting agencies and various other team members and stakeholders to see projects through to completion
- Act as our “brand ambassador”, passionately representing our company both internally and externally
- Bachelor's in Civil Engineering (required)
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification (required)
- Minimum of 10 years of related engineering experience, whether through consulting or working for an electric utility (required)
- Project management experience (preferred)
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of managing project scope, schedule and budget
- Civil Engineering design work experience related to: 69kV/115kV/138kV/230kV/345kV/500kV electrical substations and/or electrical switchyards including: site grading, drainage analysis, detention basin design, structural foundation, retaining wall design, geotechnical analysis, pavement design, SPCC design, SW3P design, wetland access roads and security fencing
- Basic knowledge of design codes and software (Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Microstation and stormwater analysis programs)
- Understanding of basic practices for evaluating engineering and design issues, developing alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations
- Ability to work in a safe manner and obey safety regulations at all times
- Effective communication skills (verbal, written and presentation)
- Exposure to transmission, substation, environmental, right-of-way, construction and maintenance stakeholders
- Ability to use a collaborative approach when working with peers or clients
- Demonstrated high level of comfort with sharing knowledge freely
- Ability to identify relevant metrics and ability to apply them to the business, our clients, and projects
- Demonstrated self-initiator with a results-driven mindset
- Strong attention to detail with ability to work independently and manage projects
- Ability to think creatively as it relates to engineering innovation and solutions
