Job Description

Smartsheet is looking for a Senior Director of Experience Design to lead the design and delivery of our design teams.

Dual-track Agile. Incremental vs. generative design. UX Debt. Fit and finish sprints. Design QA. If you've managed a design team in an agile environment, you'll be well-familiar with those terms. If so, you will also know the challenges in delivering seamless, end-to-end experiences when working across multiple scrum teams with different backlogs and sprint plans. Because of your 10,000-foot vantage point, you'll see themes and patterns where no one else does. Because of your years of experience as a former design IC, you'll be able to coordinate the planning, prioritization and delivery of those themes and patterns at the 10-foot level. You have a solid understanding of process and understand how and when to make trade-offs which don't cripple the ability to deliver a great customer experience.

Designers at Smartsheet tend to be a bit non-traditional; coming to design through unconventional routes. We welcome all kinds of diversity and embrace the unique perspectives, transferable skills and relevant experience that being "a little different" brings with it.

You will report to the VP, Experience Design and will be located in our Bellevue, WA Headquarters.

You Will:

  • Help establish, drive and articulate a vision for the future of design at Smartsheet.
  • Define the user experience strategy and vision for your areas of oversight.
  • Establish goals and target metrics that design decisions can be mapped to.
  • Manage the day-to-day and strategic activities of UX designers, making sure that the human-centered process is properly planned and followed.
  • Lead UX designers in a motivating and supportive manner and keep the team on top of emerging UX techniques and tools.
  • Develop career paths and programs tailored to individual team member professional development.
  • Gain a deep understanding of user needs and goals and communicate them to product teams.
  • Create alignment with other groups within the company by working collaboratively with product teams to launch new features and evolve existing ones based on an understanding of user needs, business objectives and technical constraints.
  • Translate business goals into innovative, creative and engaging product experiences.
  • Support other duties as assigned.

You Have:

  • 10+ years experience designing exceptional experiences for complex, data-driven web and mobile applications.
  • 10+ years experience as a manager leading, growing, inspiring and mentoring direct reports.
  • Successful experience leading a large team of designers (10+).
  • Experience designing for SaaS platforms.
  • Passion for the field of User Experience.
  • Experience facilitating activities to gather insights on user needs and goals and conducting usability testing.
  • Experience finding simple, innovative solutions for complex problems.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies.
  • Strong visual design skills and sensibilities.
  • Expert in Sketch, Axure or other visual design, wireframing, and prototyping tools.
  • Proficiency in rapid prototyping.
  • Ability to articulate design decisions and advocate for the user.

Perks & Benefits:

  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for full-time employees
  • Equity - Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) Equity with all offers
