Job Description

The VCCS Information Technology Services (ITS), Enterprise Services Database Support Services team is seeking a results-oriented, committed and self-motivated individual with exceptional technical Oracle Database skills on Linux and AIX and/or MS SQL Server on Windows. Team is responsible to analyze, develop and maintain Oracle 12c/18c, MS SQL Server 2008R2/2012R2/2016 and Maria DB databases in support of the various Enterprise applications for the VCCS including PeopleSoft’s Campus Solutions, Human Resources and Financials applications.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Configure, optimize and administer the VCCS database infrastructure
  • Perform analysis across the execution from roadmap to implementation of database upgrades, patches and migrations
  • Work closely with system and network teams to engineer effective database solutions that ensure reliability, quality and scalability
  • Establish, standardize and document procedures to ensure sustainability and uniformity of database operations
  • Diagnose and resolve incidents (e.g. security, performance tuning)
  • Collaborate and assist teams to support VCCS applications
  • Participate in projects to assess, deploy and exploit new or improved infrastructure technology to better meet the changing demands
  • Review backup and recovery strategies and participate in Disaster Recovery and business continuity efforts for the VCCS
  • Lead analysis of business and application requirements to translate into new or modified database or data capabilities
  • Participate in rotation in support of a mission-critical 24/7/365 environments


Minimum Qualifications
  • A combination of relevant education and experience that provide the required level of knowledge, skills and ability to successfully perform the functions of the job requirements.
  • Significant knowledge of Oracle 12c/18c and/or MS SQL Server administration
  • Significant experience with implementations, upgrades and patching databases
  • Proficient skills to develop, troubleshoot and optimize SQL
  • Proficient in implementing operational automation technologies using Microsoft PowerShell and/or Unix/Linux scripting
  • Experience with backup, restore and database recovery models
  • Highly organized and detailed with strong troubleshooting ability
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Must be a creative problem solver with project planning skills and a desire to learn new technologies
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and to collaborate as a team member
  • Familiar with Performance Tuning and Optimization using native tools (e.g. Management Studio, Microsoft Systems Center Operations, Idera, Oracle Enterprise Manager)


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with NetApp Snap Manager for SQL Server and Oracle or SnapCenter
  • Experience with Maria DB
