Job Type: Salary, Full-time
Location: Raleigh-Durham, NC or Atlanta, GA
Salary: $85,781-$98,498

OVERVIEW:

Nugget, an online, direct-to-consumer kids furniture brand, is looking for an experienced Senior Copywriter to give voice — through our site, blog, social media, packaging, and more — to our playful, witty, and earnest brand. While our first-of-its-kind hero product (the Nugget) often gets the spotlight in our marketing, we've worked over the years to develop a brand voice for Nugget that can shine in its own right in a supporting (and sometimes leading) role. From calmly and clearly guiding customer color choices, to imaginatively promoting new product releases, to advocating on social issues that we think matter for kids and families, we use our voice for a ton of things. But most importantly, we use it as an embodiment of how we think about playfulness and "play" at Nugget: not just the physical play of castles and forts, but the play of the mind, including words, stories, and ideas.

In this role, you'll further develop our brand voice and copy guidelines, write and edit new outgoing marketing on a weekly basis, and ensure that our voice and style is being woven into all channels of the business (including internally) — with an editor's eye for style and grammar, and an adventurer's appetite for trying new things. Nugget was launched on the premise that a couch can be fun. This job is being posted on the premise that words can be fun too. If you have experience in copywriting and are looking to roll up your sleeves, build yourself a couch fort, and put your stamp on a young brand as it grows into a household name, we'd love for you to apply!

What is Nugget? We are an industry-leading, fun-loving, furniture company (est. 2014) that seeks to bring bold play and big imaginations into everyday life at home. We design, develop, market, manufacture, sell, and ship our part-toy, part-furniture, four-piece Nuggets all from one location, with a team of ~100 Nuggeteers, in Butner, North Carolina (just outside of Durham). And we're just getting started — in both 2020 and 2021, Inc. Magazine named us the fastest-growing manufacturing company in the United States. We're proud to continue the industrial legacy of North Carolina, and to make kids furniture for growing imaginations.

ABOUT THIS ROLE:
  • You'll own the development of our brand voice/tone guide, and train Marketing and Creative teams to help them understand how to utilize the apply the guide internally (ie. everyone gets it, everyone can act on it)
  • You'll translate brand voice/tone guidelines into copy across all aspects of the business (social, blog, email, site copy, internal comms, etc.)
  • You'll advocate for, and ensure that, our unique voice is being woven into every touchpoint with the brand
  • You'll ideate on content that will build the brand and drive engagement, in partnership with rest of content team (social, content manager, even designers)
  • You'll write and copy edit regularly for all outgoing marketing and communications (primarily email, blog, and website copy) - oftentimes taking concepts from ideation to finished product, while also editing the work of teammates to finalize for publication

  • You'll work with cross-functional partners to determine copy needs across the organization, including the Creative Services, Customer Experience, E-Commerce, Product Development, and People & Culture teams.

  • Our compensation philosophy:

Here at Nugget we don't negotiate compensation. This comes from research that shows negotiations often result in arbitrary differences in pay – not based on differences in ability, but based on who is better at negotiating. For that reason, we like to offer the amount upfront that we believe is fair for the job, rather than offer a lower amount that builds in the expectation for negotiating. To add a bit more context, our process is centered in industry data, which factors in our stage/size of company, job classification, experience and skill, to make sure that we have fair and transparent numbers for our regional market.

Equal opportunity:

Nugget is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and will consider all qualified applicants regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital or family status, disability, gender identity or expression, veteran status, actual or presumed belonging to an ethnic group, or any other legally protected status. If you have a disability or special need that requires accommodation, please let us know.
