What we do:

We are looking for a Senior Engineer to help build our Avionics capabilities from the ground up. This position will report to the Head of Avionics as a member of the Avionics team.

The Avionics team is responsible for aircraft avionics as well as some external interfacing equipment. This position will work all aspects of the avionics system including system architecture, hardware and software - from design through production- and fielding. The Avionics group will work closely with Intelligent Systems, Flight Controls, Powertrain, and other groups with interfacing systems. The role will also interface with the certification authorities in addition to managing relationships with suppliers. Our ideal candidate has significant experience and expertise in Flight Controls as well as Avionics.

What you can do:

  • Avionics organization execution – cost, schedule, budget, and risk
  • Participate in avionics system architecture development and requirements definition
  • Participate in cockpit and crew station layout
  • Ensuring the aircraft avionics configuration meets the safety requirements by the certifying agency through demonstrated compliance with SAE-ARP 4754A and SAE-ARP 4761
  • Ensure the aircraft avionics configuration meets the certification requirements through means of compliance such as DO-254, DO-178C, and DO-160G
  • Work with other groups for interfacing systems
  • Liaise with certification authorities and suppliers

What you can contribute:

  • Extensive experience in Avionics and Flight Controls
  • B.S. in aeronautical, electrical or similar engineering, M.S. preferred
  • Must have extensive understanding and experience with SAE-ARP 4754A, SAE-ARP 4761, DO-178C, DO-254, DO-160. Candidates with DO-297, ARINC 653 preferred
  • Familiarity with flight critical avionics certified to DAL A; extensive experience and knowledge of certification process for airborne software up to and including DAL A
  • Adept at both research and production programs
  • Deep experience with Integrated Modular Avionics systems
  • Demonstrated success working with certification authorities and certifying flight critical aircraft systems
  • Experience with fly-by-wire flight control systems
  • Mastery of requirements management and requirement management tools, configuration management and configuration management tools
  • Highly collaborative and strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Outcome-oriented "doer" who enjoys rolling up your sleeves and doing what needs to get done
  • Proven success working remotely with team members and part of a distributed organization spanning multiple locations
  • Preferred experience with ground control systems and command and control of unmanned aircraft systems
  • Preferred experience with fixed wing aircraft and rotorcraft
  • Preferred experience in aviation, automotive, and the mobility space with UAS or UAM
  • Candidates with DER experience is a plus
