Sr. Technical Program Manager 2 – Inventory Management
A Senior 2 Technical Program Manager (TPM) is part of a key team of Technology professionals managing technical programs that deliver significant business value to Nordstrom and its customers. As a TPM at Nordstrom, you will lead complex and cross team programs to drive the vision and technology in partnership with our software engineers, product managers and business stakeholders.
Inventory Management is responsible for delivering technology solutions supporting our inventory position, which is the company’s single largest asset and the biggest lever of gross margin. How efficiently we manage inventory has a direct impact on the company’s bottom line. Our team is uniquely positioned to have a significant impact on company results and support the overall company experience. As part this organization, this TPM will support the platform and tools that our operations needs for managing inventory activity throughout the Nordstrom network. This is a critical function to get the right merchandise to our customers where and when they want it in the most efficient way possible.

A successful candidate will have experience working through ambiguity, helping to define technology requirements and roadmaps with business, product and engineers and incorporating customer feedback, as well as identifying potential problems before they become real problems. A day in the life…
- Manage the Portfolio of programs across functional teams and dependent organizations, gauging value of features and effectively prioritize between strategic business unlocks, foundational system capabilities, and run & maintain
- Partner across functions and teams, independently and proactively building relationships that allow you to influence the strategy, clarify ambiguities and drive alignment on goals, outcomes and requirements
- Understands and applies the principles and best practices of technical program management in a scaled agile environment to solve practical needs of the business, while independently managing moderate to large cross-functional programs
- Manages work execution through program dependencies, risks, schedules, budgets, and understands the importance of requirements gathering, prioritization, and clear stakeholder communication
- Partnering with stakeholder and technology teams in building product/platform roadmaps and plans ahead for the next 6-12 months, while proactively influencing features and functionality
- Uses data to report status, performance and communicates using fact-based and relevant data
- Applies engineering lifecycle knowledge to feature design, work estimation, design review, program increment execution, issue triage, schedule, and performance standards
- Deconstructs long-term goals into well-defined phases and iterative deliverables
- Assists their teams in making trade-off decisions by speaking to the stakeholder/partner the impact of different options
- Assesses, updates, expands and/or simplifies communication processes and program management frameworks, ensuring that the most effective practices are adopted and evolved
- Strategically dives deep into a teams dynamic and execution to identify opportunities, providing their assessment and recommendations to leadership
- Keeps up with developments and changes of dependent squads, helping influence their roadmaps and decisions to ensure that business goals are accomplished. Keeps local squads both informed of and aligned with these changes.

You own this if you have…
- 6+ years professional experience of technical program management delivering large complex programs/projects in a technical environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related technical discipline
- Proven track record of leading complex multi-stakeholder and cross-functional agile software projects
- Both business and technical acumen, including the ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions
- Strong customer and stakeholder empathy. You must be not only the voice of the customer. You must be able to channel many points of view, synthesize them and drive alignment even in times of friction and disagreement.
- Experience working directly with technical teams in a scaled agile software development environment and managing agile release trains at the Program and Solution level
- Ability to connect foundational capabilities to over-arching enterprise-level value streams
- Executive-level verbal and written communications skills
- A willingness to partner across all dimensions of Nordstrom to influence, drive, and deliver change
- Comfortable operating in time horizons of 6 or more months. Identifies strategic milestones to ensure short, medium, and long-term results.
- Experience managing stakeholder relationships, agile SDLC methodologies, and comfortable with JIRA and Confluence
- JIRA Portfolio/Roadmap or other lean agile portfolio management tool experience preferred
- Experience rolling out SAFe for large organizations is a plus
- Product Management experience is a plus
