Under immediate supervision for a period of six (6) to twelve ( 12) months, participates in six (6) weeks of formal classroom training, receives and completes 800 hours of on-the-job experience to develop the skills and ability necessary to perform general and routine tasks pertaining to protection. security, therapy and sanitation under conditions on an assigned shift/post for a 24/7 maximum security facility. Obtains specialized training and experience in therapeutic custodial care of residents with mental illness. Records and documents unusual incidents. Responds to emergency situations.

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.

Requires ability to protect self and others. Requires ability to think clearly and exercise initiative in emergency situations. Requires ability to participate in and successfully complete the Security Therapy Aid Training Program.

Requires possession of a Class D driver's license to transport residents to off site activities. May require the use of Self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), fire extinguishers and other emergency equipment.

Work Hours:

Monday - Friday 6:45 am - 3:15 pm for first six weeks
