Job Summary Depending on skill level, operators produce parts, set-up/change over machines and troubleshoot two multiple spindle screw machines equipped with an automatic indexing and feeding mechanism to machine metal bar stock by performing the following duties. Job Duties Screw Machine Operators All Levels: Operate multiple screw machines assigned. Load appropriate bar stock for part assigned. Follow quality and packaging procedures to ensure part is within customer specifications.
Use blueprint, tool change charts, packaging instructions, audit sheets, quality alerts, gages and visual inspection as required for the specific part. Perform production activities to meet the assigned part per hour goals. (PPH) Maintain productivity boards at the work center and enter production, scrap, downtime and daily notes into the Plex system. Print and attach labels to specified container.
Maintain good daily operation of the equipment by using required coolant, oil, solvent, rust preventative and air in the proper amounts. Clear routine equipment faults or stoppages. Conducts basic machine maintenance as described above and keep work area clean, organized and safe. Participate in physical inventory activities as requested.
Trains/mentors other operators as assigned. Notifies supervisor or leader/technician of any equipment, material or quality and scrap issues. Participates in proactive team efforts to share knowledge/skill to achieve departmental and company goals. Additional Definition of Skill Levels: Screw Machine Operator Trainees Selected associates who meet minimum criteria and who have not run a screw machine previously or have very limited experience will be considered trainees.
All trainee level operators will participate in our in our internal screw machine training program. This program is approximately 6-7 months in length. All trainees who graduate from the program will be moved to a Level 1 operator status. Level 1 Operators Considered basic operators who are newly out of our internal training program or with basic operator skills from previous experience.
Level 1 operators need to maintain good work performance/attendance for 4 years. During the 4-year period they will be responsible to operate production on two Screw Machines and successfully demonstrate ability to run at least 2 machine size groups/complexities and all raw material types. • Group 1 – 3-4” • Group 2 – 1 ¼-8 – 2 5/8” • Group 3 – 1 ¼-6 and below Raw material types may include: steel, aluminum, brass When a Level 1 operator successfully completes this period they will move to Level 2 operator. Skill Focus: see qualifications below Level 2 Operators Considered production operators.
May have 2 or more years’ experience as a L1 or/may have equivalent prior operator experience. Operates/maintains two Screw machines and meets all department goals. Mentors others as assigned. Performs change over machine from one existing part layout to another existing part layout as assigned Assist in the set-up and/or repair of machines assigned.
Skill Focus: see qualifications below Level 3 Operators Considered set-up, production operators. May have 1-year experience as a L2 or equivalent prior experience. Set-up different production parts throughout the various sizes of screw machines. Operates two screw machines when not setting up other machines.
Assist in identifying and repairing mechanical/tooling problems with the various machines in the department. Experience and Education • Perform work under minimal supervision • Handle moderately complex issues and problems and refer more complex issues to higher level staff • Possess solid working knowledge of subject matter • Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent, some vocational/college courses preferred • No experience required for trainees/level 1 operators, L2 operators require minimum of 2yrs experience running 2 Acme-Gridley machines and/or equivalent training and experience. L3 operators must be able to demonstrate performance of L1 and L2 operators and have ability to set up (or change over) machines. Competencies/ Skills • -Basic computer operation.
Ability to enter data (numbers) and simple notes. -Knowledge of reading blueprints, tool layouts and applying simple to complex instructions. -Knowledge of GD&T -Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide positive and negative whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to add and subtract positive and negative numbers up to 5 decimal places.

- Time management. Able to maintain multiple machines simultaneously. Notes: All of the work centers have a repetitive nature. All screw machines have an auto load device that enables operators to move around the machine performing other duties such as checking parts and machine maintenance.
