Summary:

Seagen is seeking a highly collaborative Scientist with a strong background in Cancer Biology, Tumor microenvironment and/or Immuno-oncology to lead research activities supporting early research programs for ADC and/or targeted therapy development. This individual will be responsible for designing and executing preclinical research activities in collaboration with cross functional project teams for drug development candidates. The successful candidate will directly contribute to Seagen pipeline as a Research Lead, and it is expected to drive collaborative efforts with immunologists, cancer and system/computational biologists. They should have a record of being a strong scientist, team player, strategic thinker, and an effective communicator.



Principal Responsibilities:

  • Design, conduct, and interpret experiments utilizing a diverse array of techniques aimed at identifying and characterizing tumor-selective cancer or immune targets and their underlying biology
  • Leverage target and/or immune biology to guide therapeutic design and identify and utilize the appropriate preclinical models for therapeutic design validation
  • Identify relevant cancer or immunology targets to generate biological hypotheses (e.g. target characterization and drug combinations) in oncology
  • Design and execute comprehensive experimental plans that inform and enable therapeutic project progression
  • The candidate will serve generally as a domain expert in cancer biology or area of immunology, stay abreast of relevant literature and act as a subject matter expert within the entire research team
  • Work independently and demonstrate the ability to contribute to projects outside their expertise
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Ability to coach and mentor people for performance and scientific growth and career development
  • The candidate will be a creative, vocal, and enthusiastic scientist able to think and work independently, with a strong collaborative spirit
  • May provide research support/oversight for external collaborations and/or MTAs
  • Presents research at scientific conferences, serve as a key contributor to regulatory documents and peer reviewed publications and work with legal on patent filings as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD Cancer Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or Immunology
  • 2+ years of industry or post-doctoral experience in cellular and/or tumor immunology or cancer biology
  • Strong background in experimental cancer biology, biochemical and/or immunological techniques (e.g. multiparametric flow cytometry, cytokine profiling, immune-phenotyping, etc.)
  • Ability to identify and plan critical path experiments in alignment with team objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, manage and organize work across multiple projects
  • History of leading research programs that required interfacing with multiple functional teams
  • Uses critical thinking to solve complex problems, address challenges, overcome obstacles and plan for the future
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills, ability to identify and absorb critical information and convey it to relevant stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of audiences
  • Strong collaborator with ability to function across teams and a variety of disciplines
  • Ability to gain support and commitment for research plans using compelling rationale
  • Ability to recognize and deliver on key department and project objectives
  • Ability to adapt and adjust to a rapidly evolving environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting research in drug discovery and biologicals
  • Knowledge of ADCs and/or therapeutic antibodies
  • Mentoring experience
  • Demonstrated record of publications and/or presentations at scientific conferences
