Job Description

Why Seres Therapeutics
Seres Therapeutics is a leading microbiome therapeutics platform company developing a novel class of multifunctional bacterial consortia that are designed to functionally interact with host cells and tissues to treat disease. Our SER-109 program achieved the first-ever positive pivotal clinical results for a targeted microbiome drug candidate and has obtained Breakthrough Therapy and Orphan Drug designations from the FDA. The SER-109 program is being advanced for the treatment of recurrent C. difficile infection and has potential to become a first-in-class FDA-approved microbiome therapeutic.
Seres Therapeutics is a member of the Flagship Pioneering family of companies.
Position Summary
At Seres, we’re leading the microbiome revolution — and our most revolutionary asset is our team. Their courage and deep commitment are what drives us on our mission to transform the lives of patients worldwide with revolutionary microbiome therapeutics.
Reporting to the Associate Director, Analytical Development, you will be responsible for developing methods to ensure safe and effective bacterial therapeutics for the patients who need them. You will need to apply your expertise to the unique challenges faced when characterizing and releasing therapeutics comprised of communities of bacteria. As Seres has grown, the need for assays that can match the throughput of a robust product pipeline has also grown. You will be instrumental in designing the assays, technologies, and data processing that will allow Seres to efficiently characterize and release our products.
What You’ll Do

  • Partner closely with other members of Analytical Development to develop and/or redesign assays for improved throughput. Assays will be rooted in many scientific disciplines, including molecular biology, microbiology, physical chemistry, and biochemistry. New technologies will need to be incorporated and new methodologies will need to be developed.
  • Work directly with Quality Control as needed to support assay and technology transfer efforts and investigations.
  • Support or lead assay investigations and troubleshooting efforts as needed.
  • Author and review technical reports describing experimental outcomes
  • Develop pipelines for efficient data analysis

What You’ll Bring

  • PhD in biology, biological engineering, chemistry, or a similar field with 0-2+ years of experience or MS with 3-4+ years of experience.
  • Must be enthusiastic, proactive, collaborative, curious, and results-oriented
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment working on multiple projects with shifting priorities based on a combination of business strategy, regulatory feedback, and pre-clinical data
  • Experience with designing high throughput assays including, for example, assays that utilize automated liquid handlers, colony pickers, robotic arms, or other instrumentation designed to increase throughput.
  • Strong quantitative skills, including a deep understanding of statistical analyses
  • Excellent skills in molecular biology, microbiology or bioengineering
  • Experience with a wide variety of analytical techniques, including but not limited to qPCR, ddPCR, fluorescence and phase contrast microscopy, high performance liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, GC-MS, LC-MS, flow cytometry and/or general microbiological methods.

You May Also Bring

  • Experience with assay qualification or validation in a GLP/GMP environment is a plus
  • Programming experience in a language of your choice is a plus
  • Molecular assay development experience is a plus
  • Proficiency in statistical analyses software, such as JMP or Minitab is a plus
