School Nurse

Full-time School Nurse for the Hansen Elementary School, Grades K-5-Manage a busy health office in an organized, efficient manner.-Provides direct care (emergency/first aid and primary care) to K-5 students.-Applies current professional knowledge regarding following Pediatric chronic conditions: Type 1 Diabetes (Calculations for insulin administration via syringe, pen, pump), asthma, anaphylaxis, seizures,etc.-Develop a professional working relationship with school staff. -Communicates daily with various members of the district team: administration, faculty, staff, parents, students and colleagues-Provides direct care (as above) to staff, as needed.-Administers medication in accordance with school policy/procedures.-Provides relevant teaching, counseling, guidance as needed.-Document in a thorough and efficient manner - utilizing an electronic database (SNAP experience preferred)-Organizes, schedules and conducts required annual health screenings (heights/weights, vision, hearing, scoliosis)-Reviews student records and prepares for all field trips. -Responsible for prevention and control of communicable diseases within school building.-Develops IHCPs, Emergency Care Plans and 504s as needed.-Serves on committees, as required or needed.-Maintains, continuing education requirements for DESE recert. and BORN.-CPR/AED current certification-Collects data and submits reports as required by MDPH or district.-Attend meetings: professional and committee, occasional IEP/504 meetings.-Covid-19 responsibilities: includes collaborating with the Nurse Leader, Canton Board of Health and administration Providing ongoing communication, education and support to staff, students and families, including PPE training and mitigating strategies for Covid-19 Monitoring daily staff and student Self-Screeners Assisting in contact tracing efforts within the school community-Perform other duties per job description and as assigned.
