GENERAL STATEMENT OF AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The High School Counselor is responsible for educational, vocational, and personal counseling for students as assigned by the building principal. This may require meetings with parents, students, and/or staff outside the normal workday. May also be required to work before and/or after his or her contracted year. Requires other work beyond the work day as assigned by the building principal.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
The High School Counselor is responsible to his/her building principal and works directly with the Division Leader and Assistant Principals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The counselor has supervisory duties as assigned by the building principal.
Helps students with personal decision-making competencies, self-acceptance, behavioral and academic success.
Interprets school improvement and individual data to students, parents, teachers, administrators and other authorized persons.
Assists in identifying students with special abilities or needs.
Assists current and former students and parents with educational/occupational planning.
Is responsible for maintenance of student records.
Assists in counseling students in the scheduling process.
Assists students and parents with referrals to other specialists and outside agencies.
Assists student transfers from school to school and from school to employment.
Assists with the assessment of the guidance program.
Prepares student group guidance programs as requested.
Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with co-workers, fellow employees and the public.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
Performs other assignments as directed by the principal.

Education and Experience:
Successful secondary teaching experience desirable.- Counseling experience desirable.
- Experience in working with and meeting the needs of at-risk students.
- Must hold an Oregon Personnel Services Certificate with a Counseling Endorsement, or equivalent.
