Payroll Supervisor

Our Memphis Corporate office is looking for an experienced payroll professional to oversee our Payroll processes. The supervisor will relay information between the team and the HRIS/Payroll Manager. The supervisor will guide the team through daily work activities. For this role, it is crucial to have the ability to communicate effectively and deliver strong internal customer service while working in a deadline-driven environment.

The Payroll Supervisor will own the processing of the Salaried Exempt employee group. The Payroll Supervisor will partner with Mill personnel at 30 U.S. mills to ensure that cutoffs are met for payroll processing. Will assist the team in responding to system-related questions from the field. The Payroll Supervisor reviews, as well as processes payroll during short pay cycles and in absence of the Payroll Specialist. This includes reviewing, processing, and validating computer-generated reports each pay period prior to the finalization of payroll.

The Payroll Supervisor will understand SOX's internal control processes and ensure that all controls are adhered to. Will assist in various planning meetings concerning payroll and the HRIS systems. Will perform as a lead on Payroll projects. The Payroll Supervisor will update payroll procedures and assist in the training of both internal and external personnel.

As a payroll professional, you will have an in-depth knowledge of Payroll tax processes and laws. You will oversee quarterly and year-end processing and tax filing. You will apply for new state and SUI accounts and work with the vendor to ensure that the setup is correct for payment of the taxes

Responsibilities:

  • Consults with HR managers and other departments to determine HRIS needs.
  • Translates business objectives and user needs into clearly written technical requirements.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to develop and implement technology solutions that help to streamline and automate HR processes.
  • Serves as system administrator for HR systems and applications in the absence of the HRIS Analyst
  • Work with HR, Finance, IT to maintain and improve the system, including configuration, end-user access, security, and system efficiency.
  • Implements process improvements and policy changes designed to improve efficiency and the user experience with the system.
  • Evaluates HR systems to identify points of improvement
  • Documents processes.
  • Provides training and technical support.
  • Serves as point of contact for questions regarding the Payroll. Go-to subject matter expert for the system (UKG)
  • Provides backup to Manager HRIS/Payroll
  • Other duties and projects as required.

Required Experience You Will Need:

  • 5–10 years of experience in Payroll or HRIS systems
  • Minimum education of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, HR Management or similar
  • Exceptional ability to gather and interpret data, as well as improve HRIS processes.
  • Experience in documenting processes, as well as performing diagnostic tests and audits.
  • Experience working in an agile delivery environment.
  • Experience with UKG software or other Payroll applications
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication, collaborative, and customer service skills
  • Must be able to work independently and prioritize workload effectively
  • Ability to effectively multi-task, demonstrate organizational skills, and maintain a high level of attention to detail
