Description
UPMC Western Maryland is seeking Saftey/Security Officers to join their team! Currently hiring for regular full-time, flex full-time, regular part-time, limited part-time and limited casual positions. The Safety/Secuirty Officers ensure 24/7 coverage for the hosptial with shifts including daylight, evening, and overnights. This position will work rotating weekends and holidays.

Purpose:
Security Officer Position is an extension of the organizations management team that is involved in avariety of day to day operations. Security Officer is responsible and/or accountable for their actionsas well as actions of others that violate the standards of the organization.By the very nature of the position being a 24x7 service, the Security Officer has to be able to functionindependently, seeking direction as needed. Handling routine request for service as well asemergency situations require an understanding and response to Emergency situations (Code Red,Green, Pink, Grey, Purple, Blue, Yellow) Response to Disturbances/Disorderly Conduct and buildingsecurity system activations require a thorough knowledge and understanding for the Officers safetyas well as others.Direct responsibility for the Helipad and its operation falls under the umbrella of the Safety-SecurityServices.Security Officer is required to have knowledge and good understanding of security systems andoperations (Camera Surveillance, Access Control, Panic/Duress Systems, EmergencyCommunication System (Garage), Infant/Child Security System and the Equipment/Patient TrackingSystem.Security Officer is required to understand equipment and systems related to the organizationsresponse for safety-security, such as Fire Alarm Systems and Building Security Systems (Off-siteClinics and Primary Care Centers)Security Officers work with local entities i.e., law-enforcement, fire services, EMS and EOC. OfficerMUST understand Basic Maryland Criminal Law and HIPPA Regulations.Security Officer investigates and completes written documentation for services rendered as well assuspicious situations and the completion of Shift Activity Reports and WMHS Incident Reporting.Security Officer must be able to effectively communicate in a written format as well as verbal.Customer Service Focus dealing with others (departments/staff, physicians, patients, visitors) isnecessary to promote a positive attitude/perception of the Officer and organization.Confidentiality is paramount for the Security Officer Position.

- Demonstrates understanding of safety practice within scope of duties/responsibilities.Takes no shortcuts that increase the risks of accidents, personal injuries or equipmentfailures. Looks for unsafe practices in the workplace and takes responsibility toensure that others are aware of the potential impact. This is distinctly different fromthose who are unaware of many safety expectations, take shortcuts that increasesafety risks, and/or fail to recognize and take timely action to increase safe practicesby others.
- Takes a proactive approach to anticipating and preventing problems. When problemsoccur, defines those problems, investigates obstacles, gathers relevant information,decides whether solving the problem should be a group decision, generates andanalyzes alternate solutions and arrives at a workable solution.
- Demonstrates ability to work independently, with minimum supervision, as evidencedby using good judgment and following written and verbal instructions carefully.Reports clearly. Seeks guidance and direction as necessary for the successfulcompletion of duties. Makes decisions in the absence of Director or Supervisor.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED General Studies Required
- Associates Criminal Justice preferred
- One year of experience in the Safety-Security field preferred.
- Good communication skills, verbal and written.
- Ability to make sound decisions & proper notifications.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Licensures - Driver's LicenseCertifications -BLS - Basic Life Support Certification IAHSS Basic Security Officer Certification preferred. N-95 certification, behavior management, and haz-mat certification completed annually
