Job Description
BAE Systems, one of the world's leading defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 company, is hiring a Safety Manager for our chemical manufacturing facility in Kingsport, TN. The Safety Manager is responsible for maintaining an Occupational Health and Safety program (OHSAS 18001) that supports the safe execution of production activities in accordance with the corporate safety policy and all federal, state, and local regulations. In this role, you are responsible for developing working partnerships across the organization that promote a positive, proactive approach to ensuring worker health and safety. You must create and maintain an effective method for review of work processes to ensure a robust approach to hazard identification, risk assessment and the implementation of operational controls. You will establish and maintain the infrastructure and organization necessary to consistently deliver industry leading Safety and Health performance.

Key Roles & Responsibilities
  • Ensure the safety of all employees working in a 24/7 high-explosives manufacturing operation
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, consensus standards, and customer requirements
  • Liaise and coordinate with other BAE Ordnance facility to ensure common understanding of and compliance with OHS requirements
  • Ensure thorough safety audits are conducted at required intervals
  • Ensure adequate risk assessments and mitigation throughout site
  • Coordinate, schedule, and participate in site inspections with insurance companies, government and regulatory agencies
  • Manage a team of approximately 18 safety professionals
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Minimum requirement: Bachelor's degree and 6 years of related safety experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in OSHA regulations, consensus standards and customer specifications
  • Experience in managing an Occupational Safety and Health system (OHSAS 18001 or equivalent)
  • Experience managing/leading a team
  • Experience with hazard identification, related risk assessment, and determination of proper controls
  • Computer capable to include MS: Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Safety or related discipline
  • Experience working in a chemical or explosives manufacturing environment
  • Process Safety Management experience
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • Experience supporting a 24/7 manufacturing facility
