Summary: Supports the site in the design, management, and implementation of our comprehensive Health and Safety programs and provides direction to all levels within the operation regarding appropriate Health and Safety practices. Plans, implements, evaluates and communicates safety initiatives that meet and exceed regulatory requirements.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide support for division management and field operations teams to meet their annual safety goals and possess and apply the ability to drive results.
- Works with Director of Safety, Human Resources, and Operations Teams to develop strategies to reduce overall worker’s compensation expense.
- Apply directives from the organization of any safety initiatives; act as an advocate for DPI’s safety culture.
- Must support programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of personal protective equipment.
- Creates, supports, and implements strategies to establish and improve safety compliance.
- Supports site safety management systems.
- Educates employees in proper safety procedures, safe work practices and policies.
- Develops, evaluates and recommends process and equipment changes and improvements to maximize safety and improve environmental impacts of operations.
- Ensures adherence to internal auditing schedules.
- Conducts root cause analyses and preventive/corrective action follow-up.
- Conducts job hazard analysis in conjunction with the Director of Safety.
- First point of contact for site-specific incident investigations.
- May perform other duties to fulfill DPI’s objectives based on operating needs

The employee must have proficient knowledge of English and basic math skills. A minimum of 3 years’ experience is required. Prior experience in logistics, warehousing or related field is preferred. Must be proficient in applicable worker’s compensation laws and regulations as well as return to work processes. Knowledge of DOT requirements and a solid working knowledge of DOT regulations required. The employee must be proficient with understanding OSHA laws and regulations. Must be proficient in use of MS Office and any other safety related websites/ DPI databases within 90 days of hire. Power industrial truck certification and ability to train others is preferred. Bilingual in Spanish is preferred. The Safety Coordinator works with a degree of autonomy and requires exceptional organizational skills and self-motivation.
Work Environment:
The work environment is indoors. The employee will be exposed to variable temperatures from the three different product climates (dry, cold, freezer). The floors are concrete in the staging area; vinyl floor covering is typical when working the aisles at a customer site.
Work Hours:
The position is 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. The employee may be required to work overtime, Holidays or weekends. Start times may vary due to the hours of the operation.
Physical and Mental Demands:
Medium. Exerts up to 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. This job also requires frequent standing and walking. Constant use of the upper extremities is required to reach, grasp, handle and use, tools, parts, equipment and machinery. The employee must know and follow proper safety protocols, DPI grooming, hygiene and dress code requirements, including appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE). This position requires a high degree of interaction with employees, managers and senior leadership.
