Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTIONResponsibilities: To consistently service and aggressively expand an assigned set of customers along a predetermined route. Assist and develop a relationship with your customer that energizes and motivates them to sell Interstate Batteries. One must conduct themselves at all times in a manner that represents Interstate Batteries and our brand in a professional manner.
Appearance: Wear a clean and pressed uniform each day. Must be clean shaven or beards must be cut short and neatly trimmed. Wear steel toed shoes. Wear all PPE required including safety glasses, gloves and other safety equipment when required.
Duties: Maintain all routes in a dealer sequence that is cost efficient from start to finish. Maintain all routes in a clean manner including but not limited to rotating inventory and keeping displays clean and attractive. Assist wholesale customers and their battery needs. Collecting monies when appropriate. Perform warranty claims at the customer’s location. Educating customers about new and existing products and the differences between them. Place point of sale materials at customer’s request. Maintain a clean and tidy route truck. Load and unload the route truck with both new batteries and core batteries. Maintain an accurate inventory count on the route truck. Must present a professional image at all times. Look for and report potential prospects for new accounts.
Qualifications: Must have a high school diploma. Must a Chauffer’s license. Sales experience a plus. Must be punctual. Must have organizational skills. Must have excellent communication and time management skills. Must be able to create a good first impression, be self-motivated, detailed oriented and have strong sales ability. Physical requirements: must be able to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, lift in excess of 50 pounds frequently, stoop kneel, crouch, reach, push, lift, grasp, walk, talk hear, and repeat motions. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures that required documentation is complete and is in compliance with regulations and standards
- Maintains positive customer relationships and handles issues with professionalism and care
- Delivers orders safely by following regulations, safely operating and maintaining the delivery vehicle, and using extreme caution while driving
- Delivers product to specified locations, making deliveries in the most efficient, economical manner possible
- Develops and maintains an efficient routing system
- Develops and maintains an organized and efficient loading and unloading system
- Unloads merchandise according to customers' requests
- Attends all staff meetings, trainings, and educational classes as required
- Ensures that work areas are clean and that equipment, tools, and supplies are properly stored
- Maintains a professional appearance, which includes wearing a clean uniform
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Consults with customers/prospects regarding product needs and determines how those needs can best be satisfied
- Contributes to the inventory management process
- Discusses available options with customers, asking questions to determine needs and showing interest in the customer
- Gains and maintains knowledge about all products in order to describe the features and benefits, answer questions, and suggest related items
- Installs all types of batteries for customers, such as car batteries, watch and key fob, etc.
- Interacts and communicates professionally with commercial customers
- Maintains and promotes a clean, safe, and inviting store environment at all times
- May be required to pick up/deliver products in the local area
- Participates in cleaning activities for areas of the store, such as floors, windows, displays, parking lot, etc.
- Provides fast, friendly service and actively engages customers, offering a friendly greeting and smile and making eye contact
- Remains calm during periods of high volume and provides excellent service to all customers
- Stocks shelves and sets up displays
- Tests, analyzes, and diagnoses battery problems

- Monitors inventory, places orders, and reviews order and acknowledgement for accuracy
- Receives deliveries and stock and verifies accuracy of the delivery against invoice
- Prepares daily and periodic reports and reconciliations

- Closes sales by building rapport with potential accounts, explaining product and service capabilities, and overcoming objections
- Contributes information to market strategy by monitoring competitive products and reactions from accounts
- Expands sales in existing accounts by introducing new products and services
- Keeps leadership informed by submitting activity and results reports, such as daily call reports, weekly work plans, and monthly and annual territory analyses
- Services existing accounts, obtains orders, and establishes new accounts by planning and organizing daily work schedule to call on existing or potential customers
- Valid driver's license
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- High school diploma or GED required
- At least one year of sales experience preferred
