Route Helper

Job Summary

• Assist drivers and other helpers complete collection routes by loading garbage, assisting in backing and maneuvering the truck, and maintaining visibility on traffic and surroundings for safety.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Aid drivers in navigating routes and finding customers.
• Ensures full customer satisfaction and maintains a friendly, helpful demeanor.
• Collects residential refuse, recyclable materials, yard waste, and bulky waste items such as furniture.
• Cleans area around collection containers and trucks during route collection.
• Operates cart lift mechanism to dump collection carts.
• Operates packer blade mechanism to compress refuse.
• Maintain knowledge of operating trucks and other loading equipment safely.
• Directs traffic and guides truck operations in congested areas of the collection route.

Job Qualifications

• Any combination of education and experience is equivalent to completion of high school.
• Ability to lift, push or pull weights over 50 pounds on a frequent basis.
• Must be able to stand and walk 8-10 hours.
