Currently, we are looking for a Road, Deductions, Taxes Area - Payroll Specialist to join the ABF Freight team. This position handles compensation for contractual over the road drivers in accordance with the National Master Freight Agreement and applicable Supplemental Agreement.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Process Road Driver Payroll.
  • Process new hire and terminated road driver employees into the Payroll Master System.
  • Enter mileage rates and hourly claim rates for road driver employees into the Payroll Master System in accordance with the National Master Freight Agreement and applicable supplemental agreements.
  • Update road driver employee?s tax entities as well as W-4 allowances in accordance with federal, state, local and city tax codes.
  • Update employees? addresses as well as affected tax entity.
  • Assist in maintaining the database for ABF Freight Road Driver employees.
  • Interpret the various labor contracts regarding decisions for payment of ABF Freight?s Road Driver Employees, and communicate with Employee Relations Directors and Managers whenever guidance is needed.
  • Audit and review annual rate increases in accordance with NMFA and applicable supplemental agreements.
  • Audit and process road driver pay logs in the Road Driver Payment System to ensure compliance with National Master Freight Agreement and applicable supplemental agreement.
  • Responsible for accurate compensation and timely payment of contractual Road Driver employees.
  • Communicate with Linehaul Managers/Supervisors, Branch Managers, Operations Managers/Supervisors, and clerical staff regarding pay issues that arise for Road Driver employees.
  • Ensure that all road driver logs are accounted for and processed by each payroll deadline.
  • Process all Road Driver Vacations requests into the Road Driver Vacation System and ensure accurate and timely payment based on contractual eligibility requirements.
  • Reconcile Road Driver Vacation payments after each payroll run.
  • Review quarterly the Road Driver Vacation Liability Report.
  • Review High Check Report to validate amounts that are over the threshold for each weekly payroll run.
  • Review list for unclaimed property checks and contact terminal locations to determine if checks need to be re-issued.
  • Calculate gross to net checks for issuance of station drafts in order to avoid penalty pay through the grievance process in the event an employee is shorted on his paycheck.
  • Process all grievance pay and discrepancies for Road Driver employees.
  • Other duties and projects, as assigned.

As a Road, Deductions, Taxes Area - Payroll Specialist, you will be a member of the ABF Freight Payroll team in Fort Smith, AR. Your hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, with irregular hours that may occur depending on workload.

Education: Associate or Bachelor's degree, preferred.

Experience: Previous Payroll experience, preferred.

Computer Skills: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and 10 key.

Other Requirements: Comprehension of and ability to apply general accounting principles.
