RN - Pain Management - FT - Days - #2758

Stormont Vail Health is searching for a RN - Pain Management - FT - Days - #2758 in our Pain Management department. This position is at 1500 SW 10TH AVENUE, TOPEKA, KS 66604-1353 USA.

Schedule: Full time - 36 hours/week or greater

Shift: First Shift (Days - Less than 12 hours per shift)

Weekly Work Schedule: 7a-3:30p Monday-Friday

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

BSN preferred. Meets educational preparation or other qualifications within specified time frames as determined/outlined by specific department policy.

Certificates and Licenses:

Current RN licensure in the State of Kansas.

BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.


Additional certification may be required for certain patient care settings or populations. The department director will provide specific information and the timeframe in which such certification must be attained at the time of hire/transfer into department.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Summary:

Is responsible for all cares rendered to Pain Management patients. The R.N. assesses all patients entering into the system. He/she validates that the information on the Pain Management data base assessment form is current and complete. The R.N. works in all phases of the pain management process and strives to work in harmony with the Pain Management physicians, their nursing staff and ancillary departments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Admits patients to the Unit. Validates that the information on their Pain Management Assessment Form is current and complete. He/she assesses all aspects of patient needs. He/she provides information to the families/S.O.'s in attendance with the patient. Confirms that the consent form is signed. Secures personal effects. Teaches the patient about the examination and recovery experiences.
  • Achieves venipuncture to place and secure a patent intermittent intracath device, when appropriate
  • Administers medications as ordered.
  • Attends to the patient during the pain management examination. Is primarily responsible for administering conscious sedation and supplemental oxygen therapy as ordered by the physician. He/she records all the events of the pain management examination accurately. As the primary attendant, he/she continuously monitors the patient, their vital signs, LOC and Level of comfort throughout the examination. He/she escorts the patient to recovery and gives report to the receiving nurse, or recovers patient in the exam room, if time allows. He/she adheres to universal precautions and to all health and safety guidelines.
  • Assists physician with Pain Management procedures and attends the patient.
  • Admits patients in to the Recovery area. Monitors, documents and meets all patient needs within the R.N. scope of practice. Carries out physician orders. Does needed patient/family/S.O. teaching. Discharges the patient after ensuring that they have met the criteria for discharge.
  • Completes charting in a timely fashion.
  • Serves as a facilitator and educator in coordinating patient lab tests, x-rays, specific diagnostic procedures, and communication with home health care agencies.
  • Participates actively in required drills and staff meetings. Serves on other committees as the need arises. Performs special assignments and duties as they arise in the course of events.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with corporate compliance.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the Kansas State Nurse Practice Act and follows the statutes and regulations therein.
  • Demonstrates appropriate delegation of tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care and department activities in accordance with the Kansas State Nurse Practice Act.
