Description

A professional nurse is responsible for the delivery of quality patient care for all patients of the office and will provide clinical support to the physician and APP as needed and will provide direct nursing care to patients.

The RN/LPN in the Colon Clinic will:

  • Accurately perform and documents assigned duties under the direction and supervision of the physician or APP in accordance with the medical model of care as provided by the State Board of Nursing
  • Initiate implementation of processes and|or have access to all operational components of the office as required by daily operations

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Ability to work effectively as a team player.
  • Works closely with provider to ensure patients are optimized for procedure
  • Completes patient assessments via phone
  • Provides patient teaching and education for procedure preparation
  • Accurately completes medication reconciliation
  • Assist with routine office duties to include ordering medical supplies, maintaining appropriate inventory, scheduling patients, answering telephones, etc.
  • Communicates effectively with all age groups.
  • Notifies patients of pathology results and recommendations
  • Documents all patient care and relevant data accurately and systematically.
  • Obtains medical records from outside organizations as needed.
  • Participates in staff meetings.
  • Provide assistance to physician as needed in examinations and special procedures. Respects physician preferences and anticipates physicians needs.
  • Provide direct routine nursing care to patients according to physician’s instructions. - Assess the patient for needs specific to age, general condition, psychosocial, emotional, physical, spiritual status and visit reason or surgery to be performed.
  • Completes written assessments and documents specific needs identified.
  • Plans for the care of the patient by obtaining appropriate supplies and equipment in advance, uses appropriate positioning aids.
  • Anticipates patient needs and changing conditions necessitating additional, different supplies.
  • Monitors and maintains safe comfortable environment, assists safe transport to and from table/bed/chair
  • Maintains, monitors and initiates correction of breaks in aseptic technique
  • Complies with Augusta Health policies and procedures for handling hazardous materials, fall precautions, infection control, electrical and fire safety.
  • Evaluates care given based on specific needs and projected outcomes.
  • Instructs patients on preop and postop surgical procedures.
  • Responsible for posting surgical procedures ,CT scans, MRI or any other procedures that the physician may wish to have done at this institution or otherwise.
  • Responsible, versatile individual willing to accept a variety of responsibilities.
  • Assist physician in monitoring patients on prescriptions
  • Maintains confidentiality of patients
  • Coordinates and observes activities of supportive clinical staff, makes recommendations in the quality and effectiveness of care provided.
  • Assist other personnel in administration of total patient care.
  • Accepts and documents verbal orders and|or critical results according to Augusta Health Policy.
  • Completes other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as an RN or LPN in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Experience in a physician's office setting is highly preferred
  • BLS certification required

Required

Associates Degree Nursing or better.

Preferred

Bachelors Science (Nursing) or better.
